In "Lord of the Rings" why didn't Gandalf ask the giant eagles who rescued him from Orthanc and showed up again at the end to pick up Frodo and Sam in Mordor just to take Frodo and Sam at least most of the way to Mordor to begin with? It would have saved a lot of hassle.
This one was never a plot hole, just repeated ad nausea after a character in some movie said it as a joke.
-Saruman and Sauron have ears everywhere. This includes almost every flying creature besides the eagles. This point is stated constantly.
-Mordor is the most heavily fortified place on the planet.
-The ring wraiths patrol the lands BY AIR, on Nazgul.
Eagles would have been the worst choice. And keep in mind, the hobbits would have been captured had Aragon and the remaining forces not gone on a insane suicide mission to draw out all of the enemy.
And I almost forgot, Hobbits.....
They are incredibly sneaky. Like, on par with foxes and other creatures of the woods sneaky. And small to the point that they are confused with children. Yet yoked in terms of strength, and equipped with all sorts of useful skills, like the ability to throw rocks harder and more accurate than Randy Johnson, and equipped with steadfast determination.
