How did he not look good? He looked very controlled. That was an easy 9.91. He actually looked to me almost as if he held back a little - as if he knew he had done enough for the win and didn't want to show all his cards just yet. He may not have looked ultra-smooth, but he never looked distressed. I think his execution was better than in the 1st race. World Champs is not for a couple of months. You want him to be running 9.6s now?

So Bolt once again fails to impress running a paltry 9.91 in still conditions and does not even have a world leading time. Sanya Richards not looking so hot either.

race was considerably better actually, both time wise, and look.

9.91 (+0.6) = 9.94

9.91 (-0.2) = 9.90

he got a great start (.158 as opposed to .174 in Rome)

and he wasnt pressed much, he even eased down at the end.

He is however, extremely vulnerable.

Tyson Gay would destroy him if they were to race tomorrow.

he is a bit rusty early in the season. A few races and he goes

According to McMillan running calculator a 2.17.0 is equivalent to 1.44.8 so 1.44.6ish I guess. Having said that the times of the other runners like Holusa and Biwott makes me think 1.45 low is more accurate.

I agree mostly with Gatorfan.

Although I wouldn't call his start great, it did look well balanced and controlled, very nice.

He didn't look like he hit absolute top gear, either.

I think he could have gone 9.86 if he had pushed it in this race. He built a comfortable lead and "cruised" across the finish.

I don't know if the travel toll will hurt him much this year, but he looks like he needs to RUN more, and do weights less. His actual running form doesn't seem to be as good as it was.

I'd expect him to have way better starts, given the weight work, but he doesn't. Not an equitable trade.

I hope he is able to take time to really practice his running action. Like his coach said, it looks as though he's forgotten how to run--more so in Rome, but a little bit in Ostrava, too.

As for Gay, who knows? To EVER run below 9.8 is insane--I don't think you can look at Gay right now and say that he'd be capable of 9.7x, which is essentially what it would take to beat Bolt if he was actually capable of running 9.86 in this Ostrava race.

He went 9.14 through 100 yards....Don't know what that translates to for 100 meters but it looked like he eased off a lot that last ~10 meters or so so is someone willing to do the conversion?

Remember Tyson went 9.91 +1.5 on a wet street track in Manchester a few weeks ago (first 100m of 150m) That's got to be worth at least a 9.85 for 100m.

We'll see just how "strong" Bolt is next week when he runs the 200m in Oslo. I'd say if he isnt at 19.7 or better, Tyson will be licking his chops.

A 2:16 1000m is very fast and it's definitely worth around 1:45 flat.

9.14 100 yards is about 9.92 100 metres

I think the thing that stuck out to me the most about this (and Bolt's last race) is that Bolt is looking very strong, but not very explosive. If he gets his first 40 meters down by August and returns to his usual prerace bravado, I don't think there's anything stopping him. A win like this is good, but at the moment he appears vulnerable to the strongest competition. (What do I know, though? I'm not very knowledgeable about the sprints.)

For the moment, though, I would be scared of Tyson Gay if I were Usain. (Of course, that makes it difficult to regain the confidence he needs to beat Gay... what a conundrum =P)
