Vinny strikes again

He was not impeded in the slightest...no contact at all...in fact it was a total joke that they added him to the next round...comically transparent.

Poetic justice when the kid showed he couldn't hack it in the next round either.

But a complete tragedy for the North Dakota kid that fell in the first heat today because there were 9 guys the heat. And this is actually the biggest casuality of the whole thing...Vinny trying to play God and the dire repercussions for the North Dakota kid that actually earned his way into that round. The whole thing makes me sick to be a track fan.

I don't know what happened in this situation, but isn't there a rule regarding time qualifying and advancing to additional rounds (i.e. if you are within a certain tolerance to another qualifier you are advanced as well)? If you look at the prelims, the Oregon frosh was very close to the final automatic qualifier in his heat.

If one of Banana's athletes happens to fall at this meet you can bet your bottom skrilla that he or she will show upmat the big dance in two weeks.

As for the North Dakota kid, well he'll just have to try again next time.

Meanwhile at the east regional, UNC's Kendra Schaaf was in a qualifying position in the 10k with 500 meters to go and is knocked down and meet officials tell UNC they absolutely have been told not to advance more than 24 per event to Des Moines.

Yet out west, they run 25 in the 2nd round. And surprise, surprise it's an Oregon runner.

Ignoring the cost issue (NCAA pays for Des Moines) as I'm sure UNC has the dough to pay, how can one justify this?

I'm not a fan of putting everyone who falls into the next round as that's racing but when someone is clearly going to qualify (500 left in a 10k), that to me seems more justifiable than what happened in Eugene.

Anyone remember the 2008 Trials when all the Nike/Eugene runners were advanced in the women's 800 was it?

only 12 can advance to iowa. the oregon 800m runner was allowed to advance to the next round of the west prelims. He would not have had the same luck if it were to happen a round later. Under no circumstance can more than 12 advance to the NCAA champs. Every tie must be broken.

The Guyota situation was another travesty perpetrated at Hayward. Apparently there were some interesting discussions at the meet management level preceding the decision to allow Guyota to advance to quarterfinals.

Guyota ended up sharing a lane with Greer in the middle of the track yesterday. What lesson does a young student-athlete learn if adults always make things 'right' for them.

A shame for the NDSU runner that got forced off the track and props to all that beat Guyota for honest spots to Des Moines.

Which is why so many of us coaches love Oregon so much. He probably advanced one runner for each REAL scholarship he has for his team (each sex). Totally corrupt. But if you file a protest, guess who decides?

So here are two photos of the finish of Guyota's heat. Both shoes look to be on to me. Not that anyone expects honesty out of Lananna at this point, but here's visual evidence directly contradicting the story out of Eugene.

Wow, that is completely ridiculous. Now have never been an Oregon fanboy, but i never rooted against them or Vinny. Now however I will be rooting against them. I cant believe he was allowed into the next round because of some bullshit lie made up by Vin. For God's sake, he wasn't fast enough and clearly showed that when he raced again. This is exactly the kind of shit that brings our sport down and makes it look like the unprofessional joke it is. Yeah, lannana (or however you spell it) is a classic with this. this guy has been cheating on scholarships worse than any coach in the NCAA (for track at least) by giving out "academic" scholarships to his runners, which are based on running not academics. He tells this to recruits, in not so many words, that he'll get them a scholarship but it won't be athletic. thats how hes able to stack his teams (stanford back then, oregon now) with full riders. this has been going on for years and years.

If your runner has his shoe stepped on, tough F6cking shit. deal with it like the rest of us. bunch of p*ssies and cheats. Remember how Rupp paid his way back into the NCAA after becoming the NCAA definition of pro? this happened as soon as smith was replaced by lannana. At least Martin Smith was an honest guy.

Don't hold back; tell us how you really feel. I want to check out all your personal witness of the facts right after I get done hearing from all those birthers. Because we all know how corrupt someone is when they make claims they know they cannot prove.

Yeah, if anything, the photos seem to show that Guyota was impeded (pushed) by the BYU guy. If that was what the protest was about, though, they shouldn't advance one runner without DQing another.

First, I hate the birthers, not that it has any bearing on this. second, i'm guessing the unsubstantiated claim you're talking about is the scholarship thing, because the blazer and khakis thing is obviously opinion, the rupp thing and the advancing runners who didn't qualify issues are already facts.

With regard to the scholarship thing, its common knowledge among D1 NCAA coaches and many of their athletes, particularly those recruited by lannana or their friends. You talked to any of them ever on this topic? Either way, Im guessing you want cold hard proof. I'll get back to you after I've found all the positive drug samples for Lance and Marion Jones.

so on the rupp topic you know its a fairly common thing with the "pro" paying back money? The AD's at my fairly small unheard of D3 school reference this every fall because if you win a race and accept prize money you have to pay it back in order to compete. Not a big deal.
