Bolt doesn't look great yet this year.
Yes, I'll say it--those are times that CLEAN guys could do!
What a fantastic early season. 10.00 for third place in MAY.
Lemaitre needs to set different goals for himself--he came in hoping to run around 10.00, and that is exactly what he achieved.
Powell STILL needs a finish--I'm sorry, but he has exhibited worthwhile top-end form only twice, maybe 3 times in his career. IF he had a finish, he would be as fast as Bolt. Heck, it looked as though even Lemaitre was gaining on him.
Of course he'll say that he was holding back, "not pushing too hard", whatever. 9.93 is still an amazing time, let alone in MAY.
Even though Bolt won, Lemaitre for me was probably the most impressive--closest of the top 3 to his PR. Give him a good wind later in the year and he will run low 9.9's
Also, even though Bolt won, he isn't confident enough. Compare Blake's run earlier this year to Bolt in this race--Bolt was struggling, gripping, tightening, while Blake was flowing, extending, relaxing. Powell looked better than Bolt, too, for most of the race.
Bolt no longer runs supremely, as he did in Beijing and Berlin. It is over for him. He will find himself down, he will grip and lose form, and injure, or re-injure, himself, and then it will be a while before he comes back, and it will be a back-and-forth with injury management.
He needs to forget about the Tyson Gay model of training, and go back to having a beer in each hand, a girl under each arm, and loud music in the background, with a fire nearby somewhere. He needs to return to crashing cars while wearing sandals.
Sadly, it appears as though the halcyon days of his youth are behind him. It was nice while it lasted, what we will see from now on will be a more mature Bolt--more measured, but less spectacular. Still fast, of course, but considering the top 3 don't seem to have big egos, there doesn't seem to me to be anything driving them to greater heights.
Ben wanted to CRUSH Carl. Why? Carl's huge ego.
Greene? Ego.
Bailey? Ego.
MJ? Ego.
USA 4x100? Ego.
The current crop is like a bunch of dead fish.
Already last year I had moved on to YOHAN BLAKE.
Some bad blood has to develop somewhere--either that, or Bolt needs to start hamming again...but is he good enough for that? Can he still run 9.69 while goofing?
No way. Those days are over.
YOHAN BLAKE.
