800m and up
800m and up
Has to be El Caballo (Juantorena) - unboycotted Olympics, competitive era, 400/800 - who even tries that? - and set a WR in the 800 in the Olympics. Inconceivable today.
Does Zatopek's triple count?
Otherwise Juantorena or Viren's Double/Double.
Pre-doping era: Snell 1964
Modern era:
El G in 2004. 1500 gold over Lagat in one of the best races ever and 5000 gold over Bekele.
Gots to be LV's mile, 2 mile, 5000 at NIN. Nothing else is even close.

Personally, feel the same. He was a beast.

Lasse Viren never did that triple.
I'd go with Daniel Gitau's 800 m MR, 1500 m, 5000 m and 10000 m quadruple win at the Kanto Regionals 2 years ago.

Well, you just wait until Wariner moves upto the 800.
lol Wariner couldn't break 1:50 in the 800.
Ramzi's 800/1500 double WAS amazing, until the doping came to light. Dibaba's 5000/10000 double in Beijing seems impressive, but was also CERA-aided.

Just like Lance!
Kelly Holmes
Not quite a Snell or Zatopek, but Frank Shorter's 1972 Olympics was nice:
10,000 heats: 27:58 American Record (first sub 28 by an American)
10,000 final: 27:51 American Record (13 seconds behind Viren's new WR)
Marathon Gold, running last 9 miles in 4:45 per mile, as I recall
KB's 5/10 double?
Who else has major doubles:
Nurmi
OG1920 10k/XC
OG24 15/5k/XC
Zatopek
OG1952 5k/10k/Marathon
Snell
OG1964 8/15

OG1976 5k/10k
Juantorena
OG1976 4/8

OG1980 5k/10k

iWC1999 15/3k

OG2004 15/5k

Paavo Nurmi's 1500/5000 double at the 1924 Olympics was truly astounding. The races were about 30 minutes apart.
how do you know she is a doper? I can see it, but have no proof...
No doubt that the best double in history was Zatopeks 5000m/Marathon double.
And the best triple is his triple :-)
Agreed.
I think the only other guy who could ever attempt a triple again (not talking about long jumps or relay here) is Usain Bolt. 100/200/400. But I doubt it will happen.
