Going there for a few days, never been before. Any tips on where to train? Or, indeed, things to see and do when not training...
I'm staying fairly centrally, west bank, midway between the river and a park called Vermezo.

Stayed there and ran for two weeks a couple of years ago. There is a track located on an island type thing in the middle of the river if you want to do some speedwork. Also on said island, there is a larger paved running loop around the island that is something like 1 mile around. I believe the river is called the Danube. Otherwise, I would try to head to the hilly side of the city, I believe it is the Buda side. Less pedestrian traffic and more calm scenic views of parliament and Pest. Good luck, beautiful city that looks great at night.
I was there on business about 20 years ago and stayed in a hotel on the island. Out of pure ignorance, I ran off the island and around Pest during evening hours in April. I was fascinated by the city as I ran, but I wouldn't call it a good place for training.
...Couldn't agree more about the city at night. It's beautiful when lit up.
Thanks for the info. Just to report back. I was busy so only had a little time in the morning.
Margit island is the place. I had a nice run 1.5m up the riverside to get to it; the Buda side is better than the Pest side with less roads in the way and a long cycle and pedestrian track. The loop around the island is about 5.5k, and they have built an actual synthetic track (one lane) around 95% of it, with markers every 500m. Best urban running surface ever! The woods in the middle looked nice too.
If you want a track, there is one on Margit allowing admission for HUF 1000, open from 06:30 each day.
Running up and over Castle Hill is a treat, and the road up the back side has a very long, gentle uninterrupted slope for long hill reps - you could probably get in 1000m.
Neat city.
