So, just wondering if anyone has any sensible/relatable/meaningful advice to my situation. Warning - kinda long, but want to give the background...
I started running in '05 at age 26 after quitting smoking and deciding to run a marathon. I ran a half marathon that year in 1:42 in my buildup to the marathon which i eventually got hurt and didn't run. i was running very low mileage.
started running again in spring '06 and ran 7 races, improving every time(by AG%) and ran my first marathon in 2:59 on like 45mpw.
'07 i continued improving every race and half marathons dropped 1:21, 1:18, and 1:16. I ran a fall marathon in 2:42 getting up to around 70mpw and following jack daniels advanced plan.
'08 i saw even bigger improvement and essentially ran my best marathon and half. in the spring i ran a 2:36 marathon. then ran 1:13 then 1:11 in the fall, followed by a 2:31 in NYC touching 100mpw and following the Hudson level 3 plan.
my improvement has essentially stopped there. i ran a 53:30 10mi in april and ran 2:30 in Chicago after some solid 115mpw's following Advanced Marathoning plan, a 45sec PR, but not really with NYC being slower course. was having probs with hamstrings and coordination in left leg during the race though.
coordination issues persisted and hamstring soreness was eventually diagnosed as tendonitis via MRI. battled with it during spring marathon buildup and missed an entire two weeks of training due to diff. injury. got in 10 weeks solid after that( 90mpw)and ended up running 2:37 in spring '10(folling Hudson plan again) after battling cooridination issue first 13.1(1:14) and then jogging in second half.
blah blah fixed hamstring after that. maintained decent mileage summer/fall, built back up to 115mpw and ran some shorter races working on speed without PR'ing and then ran disappointing 2:34, though on tough/hot course(following Hudson plan again). but thought i was in shape for 2:27 based on workouts.
i really thought i would be challenging 2:19 by now, but am just getting slower and more frustrated. i haven't PR'd at any distance in almost 2 years. i'm 32 now, but feel great. putting in lots of miles without ever feeling like overtraining was an issue. i tried dropping mileage and working on speed and didn't seem to help. i've taken weeks off. i've gotten in big base. i really want to break 2:30 this fall and am not sure how to do it, or if i can at this point. did i burn myself out already? what's, uh, the deal?
