Amazing run between Ryan Martin (UCSB) and Charles Jock (Irvine) for the Big West 800m title!
Wow. This isn't a troll. Amazing run at a conference meet.
Finals
1 Ryan Martin JR UC Santa Barbara 1:45.34* 10
2 Charles Jock JR UC Irvine 1:45.40* 8
3 Nathan Strum FR UC Davis 1:50.19 6
4 Rusty Parker JR UC Santa Barbara 1:50.82 5
5 Kevin Griffith FR UC Davis 1:50.95 4
6 Derek Thomas SO Cal Poly 1:51.65 3
7 Greg Dotson FR UC Santa Barbara 1:52.53 2
8 John Guerrero FR Cal Poly 1:53.54 1
Be on the lookout for both of these guys. Martin ran 1:46.72 last year and was 4th at NCAAs.
This actually wasn't even a pr for Jock who ran 1:45.19 to win Mt. Sac this year. He didn't make the NCAA final last year, but then turned it on, making the USATF final and then ran 1:45.65 at the NACAC meet.
Atta boy KG! Keep rolling bud!
It was an awesome race to watch! And they'll both be back again next year. As a matter of fact, no seniors in the entire field.
Thanks for the video, that was amazing to watch!
These two have a history. Check out the Big West final from 2009.
Wow.....Great race. I'm sure Martin can shave a few tenths off the time!
being ryan's friend.. you have no idea how many times i've heard somebody say that he'd run faster if he shaved
It's funny. These two are friendly rivals. Martin beat Jock in the 2009 conference meet by .02
Then in 2010, Jock beat Martin in the conference meet. They both made it to nationals, but Jock couldn't get out of his heat and Martin did. Martin went on to become All-American.
Now this...
This rivalry is intense!
FEAR THE BEARD, GAUCHO STYLE!
that was a crazy good race! That beard is thick, keep it going! He should keep it going until its as long as Noah's!
And the rivalry continues -- check out Jocks monster 44.90 anchor

that looked like 46, but that was a great anchor, and a fun race. jock can be a legit 400/800 guy on the pro level if he can really run under 45 and 1:44, great prospect. and martin living in the cabin in the backwoods, once a runner looking. nice.
No idea what ur timing...at the worst a 45.1
MAN I love the vibe of that 4x400 the crowd was really into it.
One of the thrills of the meet was seeing the teams line the track to cheer for the 4X400!

I clocked him right around 45-mid, but you can't put too much faith into a hand time. Still a great showing from Jock regardless.
It's that Big West for you...it may not be the fastest conference but every team pours their soul into that 4x4, and the crowd sees it
how are these guys 1500m prs so bad? I would think 3:50 or better would be easy for them.
