I've heard this keeps you cooler than running shirtless because it blocks the UV rays of the sun.
Can anyone comment on this when it's really humid or cloudy (but still very hot)? Also, if anyone knows any physiological evidence to back this claim up then that would be appreciated as well.
I think some people run Badwater this way. I remember when backpacking in the Grand Canyon getting advice to avoid tech fabrics to stay cool. Think the idea was get cotton shirts sweaty and wet to help with cooling. Never knew if I bought that idea (I was there in late September so it wasn't sweltering).
i am no material scientist or physiologist, but i would have to imagine that the sun would have to be extremely intense for that to help (like badwater) i run on the trails in DC which are shady enough spots that i would prefer the efficient evaporation of being shirtless at anything above 60-65.

Well, most running shirts are technical and bring sweat to the surface of the shirt, so it can be evaporated. "Wicking"
On sunny days, except for a race, I'll wear a technical long sleave, not for cooling, but to have some protection from the sun, rather than wearing sunscreen. Yes, wearing long sleaves will make one warmer but, I'd rather reduce my chance of getting skin cancer.
