Bobby Curtis 27:24, you all saw that right?

I was just going to start a thread to say the same thing. WTF? How does an American run 27:24 and he doesn't even get involved in the post race recap? Congrats Bobby Curtis and I look forward to you making the world championships this year and not getting mentioned because you don't wear a green singlet and reside in Oregon.

Curtis is the man. He was also the fourth ranked American over 5000 last year, with little to no recognition.

This site is like ESPN, it picks and chooses certain athletes to hype and others get little to no recognition despite superior numbers.

I saw it. Curtis deserves major props.

Yeah he does. One of the most impressive runs of the night. I wish they had gone with the winner, though. I don't think anyone thought he'd be able to hold the lead since he took off in bizarre Chelangaesque fashion. I admit I thought it was a dumb amateur move, but I was wrong. FEROCIOUS kick for Bobby. When St. Lawrence went by I thought no one could catch him. And then Curtis did.

The article has a big chart showing Curtis #7 all-time US and says:

"Curtis' 27:24.67 was a new personal best as he ran 27:33.39 last year in this race. That mark moves him to #7 on the US all-time list - ahead of former marathon great Alberto Salazar."

Bobby has a very quiet an unassuming personality that doesn't create a lot of buzz. He is also sponsored by a company that just doesn't generate the interest that the swoosh does. He never comes out and makes predictions or talk about what he is going to do and, unfortunately, he seems to race fairly sporadically. Put all those together and he becomes somewhat of an afterthought in the US distance scene.

As a fellow Nova alum I root like crazy for Bobby and want to see him do well. The fact that he is showing steady (if slow) progress is a good sign for his future.

Bobby's career is demonstrating the essential value of sleep to successful distance running.

anyone remember those videos the villanova team used to make a while back? i think they might have been called Track in the Fast Lane, but i could be way off. i remember Curtis being the interviewer in a few of them, pretty hilarious.

Its crazy that German Fernandez still gets front page attention EVERY where he goes even though he hasn't done squat for 2 years. I imagine 3 years from now if Bobby Curtis is running sub 27 its still going to be German Fernandez leading the headlines when he runs 13:24 to run his first pr in 5 years.

We like Bobby , he though is not world class yet . He is a good US distance athlete. He will need some coaching help to get to the sub 27/13 level.

I just didnt think that 27:24 was all that suprising for him. He is very talented and I thought quite capable of running 27:20 and better.

I think people are complaining perhaps he's not mentioned on the homepage. I'll add him as it was a good run. Not too shocking however. He was an NCAA champ and keeps getting better. St. Lawrence and him have a good thing going.

Does Marcus O'Sullivan no longer coach Bobby? The fact that he is training with Ben makes me think that his coach (Sean Williams) has some involvement in his training as well.

I would guess Bobby has all the coaching he needs to be very successful... which he already is.

Assuming Solinsky doesn't run the 10k this year, I think our World Champs team will be:

Rupp

Nelson

Curtis

Throw in a healthy Ritz and Solinsky, and assuming good health by everyone else, next year's Olympic trials are going to be a great race in the 10K.

The 5K could be the easier team to make, even with Teg and Lagat out there. I will go with Teg, Lagat and Bumbi as next year's 5k team. Rupp, Solinsky and Curtis running the 10k. Ritz, Hall and Meb in the marathon. Jager, Puskedra, Derrick, Fernandez on the outside looking in, but taking over the reigns for 2016. Webb, Monzano, Wheating in the 1500.

After last night's 5000m, you have to throw Bethke and Heath to the front of the challenger's list. They closed in 1.26 on a 13.40 pace to run 13.25, so you got to think they're both ready to pop 13.15 in the right set-up

Fantastic run for Bobby. He deserves more recognition, but then again, what does recognition on Letsrun really mean for a runner's career? Seems to be more of a hassle than an advantage.
