She is goofy looking. Cool that they let he do it, though.
I don't think she looks goofy at all.
She is the coolest of all pro runners. I would love to sit down and have a beer or two with her and listen to her retell some racing stories. She seems genuinely comfortable in her own skin and doesn't need to be what others may or may not want.
I found a video the pitch on YouTube. I wanted to see if she reach home plate, and it looks like she did:

Here's an interview

She seems like a really cool person. I liked her tailwind comment.
I was amazed at how empty the ballpark was, though. I know the Tigers aren't great, but that was ridiculous.
Actually, that is mostly because they do this so long before game time, maybe 45 minutes or so, before the main crowd really arrives. That, and the fact that the weather forecast for that night was severe thunderstorms and a tornado watch, so people stayed home...and missed what ended up being one of the most ideal nights for baseball that you could ever get. :-)
Great vid!...not
thanks for sharing those pic's, makes unknown fans like myself feel proud!
Love Desi! She's a great ambassador for our sport.
With Deena taking a step back it is great to have an American step forward as the face of Female American Marathoning.
Agreed, and the Trials will be as interesting for the women as they have been in a very long time, since our team will send medal contenders, maybe even 2 or 3.

^^This. Every time I see an interview with Hall or Goucher it makes me want to throw up. Desi's down to Earth and humble and genuine in the most badass way possible.
She's also mad cute.
Why Detroit? Is she local?
No, she's originally from California.

I assume you are asking why she is throwing out the first pitch at the Detroit Tigers game. It's because the location of the Hanson's program is based in Rochester Hills, which is a Northern suburb of Detroit, and considered "local".
Mad cute ? Cool chick , gusty.
Not mad cute though.

The video is great and we're going to put it in our week that was but does anyone know how her pitch turned out?
That video only shows a side angle and she throws her arms after the pitch which makes me think she either bounced it in or threw it way off the plate.
As for the sparse crowd, that is a big MLB crowd by today's standards.
Check the crowd out shown in this article:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/tom_verducci/05/03/bud.selig.attendance/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_t12_a225-30 mins before a Tuesday evening, early season game against the Mariners during a tornado warning probably contributed to the low turn out
Her photos reminded me of this:

Except Desi's ears stick out more (as do mine).
I'm sure she's a nice person, and a hell of a runner. But...yikes.

The tailwind didn't help her. It was as straight as an arrow, but it did bounce before getting to the plate.
And I agree...awesome video.
