Finished second at ACC's. Damn dats good for him when coach vig said that he missed his winter base mileage.
Which event will he do at NCAA's is the question.

What is the obsession with Andrews here? It's almost creepy. Same with the whole Pre thing. Besides, the kid ran poor tactically and lost.

He did not run tactically poor given the circumstance. Maybe if he was a 3:38 guy who has been healthy all year you'd have a point. Andrews just ran the fastest 1500 of his life, with barely any races under his belt. (believe just a 1:49 800 and his 3:46 in the Acc trials). Given that, he ran a tactically perfect race, and was just in better shape than anyone imagined, probably even himself. Now he knows where he is, and will be ready to run even faster next time.
I am a huge Robby Andrews fan and think he has a lot of potential in the 1500. I think he will be a 3:35/6 type by graduation. But this should be a thread for Ciaran O'Lionaird of FSU who won the 1500 and 5k, both in ACC Meet Records. He also ran a great 10k at the first Stanford meet. This Irishman is having a breakout year it seems.

The obsession is that he ran almost as fast as Rudisha and Kaki did as juniors, which makes him mind-blowingly talented.
Also something about taking down another prodigious talent in a rather dramatic fashion...
A 10,000 guy takes an 800 in a tight 1500- doesn't get much better than that! Also a snappy 2:04 for Caroline King (and a 2:02 for Kesselring at Oregon!)
Earlier post was right. RA is a huge talent with a ton of potential, and I wish him lots of success, but that was a poor race tactically, regardless of the great time. Just because you might question your fitness level is not a reason to spot the leaders anywhere near that much distance in a race you are at least intending to try to win. After the first 200 or so, he was not going any slower than they were and was not saving anything by getting that far back, and waiting that late to start his kick. All he had to do was be in the pack, instead of at the back of it, almost falling off the back of it, and he would have won solidly. Again, huge talent, great time, but he needs to learn how to race a little better.

The season he had as a true freshman was mindblowing.

I think we just like to narrow down the number of runners we follow and right now Robby is as promising a young Olympic hopeful in the events most of us care about as you can find. Oh, and jersey represent.
what a kick
Is there one for the 800 anywhere? Can't seem to find it.
This guy has incredible talent. To beat Webb's hs 1k record and to run 1:45 outdoors as a freshman, and beating an Olympian indoors at the 800m means that the sky is the limit. It would not be surprising to me at all if he runs sub 1:44 and sub 3:32 in Europe in the summer after he graduates. In fact, that sub 1:44 might come at the Olympic trials next year or in Europe afterwards if he makes the team.
WTF 9.97 for Makusha in the 100, but no wind info??? All other events were wind-legal.

while he certainly closed well...that's not a kick, that's sandbagging
thats how you race when you are 14, just starting out, and are afraid of hurting during races...you stay within your comfort zone and wait for a big last 200 to make mom and dad oooh and aaah (term "freshman kick")
Im not saying he needs to be leading these races or even right on the leaders shoulder early on, but there was no reason for him to be 4 seconds back of a 1:58 800...if he mantains any form of contact he wins that race easily
he's still young but hes been around long enough to have outgrown extreme tactics like this, keep it up and he'll always be the guy who almost won the big race because people have figured him out
(again, not saying hes a front runner...he'll always be a sit and kick guy, but being 30-40 yards back of the bell was nothing but idiotic, dont be impressed by his "kick")
First of all it is a litle bit more than some "freshman kick" and I have been critical of Andrews running this style before, I thought at Penn he had way more in him in HS, and he ran a soft 2nd and 3rd laps there to go 4:06.x.
But, counting yesterday's pre lim, this is his THIRD race in almost 8 months I would not be so critical, yet.
And if he ran 1:45.x when he was almost a 3:42 guy? What will he run this year?
If he runs 3:35-36 by end of year would anyone be surprised? And other than Manzano, Wheating or Lomong, if he were to line up in a tactical final, would it be a surprise if he was able to bang down almost an entire field off moderate fractions? Not to me it would not be.

ill agree with this in a second, Robby Andrews' future is in the 1500 no question about it and vig knows what the hell hes doing
it doesnt change how dumb his race was, but he will eventually come around
That was a sick kick but he still lost the race. Nobody remembers the guy who finished 2nd. Nice double by O'Lionaird.
