Andrews just had a crazy kick in the last 300 meters and nearly caught the kid from FSU, both ran about 3:40.7. Andrews last 300 was about 39.5 crazy he was 50 meter or so down with a lap to go

For once, Robby got burned by waiting too long, but FSU had to sacrifice a guy as a rabbit to make it happen. Exciting race!
Is there a video anywhere? UVA goes 1-2 in 800 as well http://www.theacc.com/championships/11-otf-livestats.html
pretty sure he got burned at nationals last year against wheating too for waiting too long. i like andrews and all, but he's gotta mature a bit in the tactics department because he can only ride on that nasty kick of his for so long. its only a matter of time before he gets burned big time (like maybe nationals again or worse for an olympic/world champs team) all because he hasnt learned to race with anything other than a kick. wheating learned that lesson after he lost to andrews, now hopefully andrews will learn it too after today.
pretty sure he got burned at nationals because they gave Wheating the easy qualifying rounds and Andrews actually had to work to get there so he was tired by then. shit was fixed.
He ran a 1:45 in prelims...there is no reason for running that kind of time, its a lack of experience. He has a tendency to win his heats when he should cruise into 2nd or 3rd. Hopefully he will learn from that though by the time nationals rolls around.
there was absolutely no reason to run 1:45 to win his prelim by over a second and a half. that was just dumb of him to do. and besides, wheating had the 1500m prelim as well before the final so if anything they were both on equal amounts of rest.

i don't think andrews would have beaten wheating in the final even if he had run the prelim slower, but he didn't really run any faster than he needed to. he was only .16 from the other auto in his heat, and .4 from 3rd.
and i think he gave o'lionard too much cushion today. making up ~40-50m in the last 300 is just too much to expect (typically). but, live and learn. it could be a good thing in the long run.

this is complete and absolute crap...
it would do him well to work out various strategies in college, winning from the front, from midpack, from the kick. he does the last thing well, but why give up a huge advantage to your competitors by ceding them ten or twenty meters with a lap or less to go?

Because it's more fun that way.
