Is it true New Balance is trying to get Verzbickas to go pro much like Brooks tried with Fernandez a couple years back?
Full results?

why? he will have his hands full trying to win NCAA championships, in college he has a chance to develop into a good runner.
if he goes PRO then he becomes a nobody overnight, lets say he turns pro and in 2 years gets his 5k down to 13:19 which would be outstanding improvement, in college he would be a star, as a pro 13:15 for 5k is no big deal, example remember menjo said he could not get into a few track races he wanted to get into because his best 5k was 13:00 and they only wanted sub 13 for 5k runners in their meets.
so verzbikas would be in the boat menjo was in until he ran sub 13 in a low key meet by himself.
he should definely go to college for a few years and get better, rather than turning pro and being fed to the lions.
You misunderstand what turning pro means. It doesn't mean you race, it means you secure a financial future (see Evan Jager) without the stress of structured college life. He can still get a degree on the side, but his focus will be training full-time to get ready for 2012+ since he has the ability and has the talent.
I am torn on the subject, as Galen Rupp flourished in college, but I keep thinking if it would've been best for a talent like German Fernandez to turn pro and get all the amenities of pro living (massage, therapy, gym, see Rupp/Solinsky).
It is worth considerting and obviously Verzbickas already considered it when he was thinking about going pro in Triathlon.
Lukas can train in 2012, take a shot at the trials, then continue training hard while banking a good amount of money for his talents and something he'd be doing in college. Then again, getting a college degree paid for running is well worth the investment as well.
he should go to college, he needs something to fall back on if anything ever happened that he wouldn't be able to run, and he could develop alot better in college
So no one here was there?
Lukas shoved Baddley as he came by him. Nearly took out Mayor Menino. Don't like this kid's make-up.

What exactly would being a star in college give him that being a nobody in the elites at 20 years old? He will get a chance to improve quicker, get paid for it, and not risk getting nothing if his college track career fizzles. He would probably still run in most of the same meets. There are plenty of indoor meets in the US to challenge him, ones that guys like Rupp in college ran in. And in the summer he can run the few in the US, and go over to Europe, something Rupp did as well. He can have the exact same experience, know he would be killing almost everyone in the NCAA, improve faster and get paid for it.
Looked to me like they just got tangled up as they both reached for the tape. To be fair, the mayor picked a pretty perilous spot to stand.

They showed the replay over and over on the big screen. LV was leading in the final 50m. LV was running to the center of the tape. Baddley caught him in his last 2 steps before the line, but Baddley was trying to squeeze in between LV racing on his left and the mayor holding the tape on his right. Baddley's arms were kind of flailing as he tried to squeeze through, but LV clearly pushed him in the back at the line with his right arm, and then grabbed the tape with his left hand and threw it to the ground in disgust at getting pipped. LV was smiling and chatting afterward so it was not a huge deal.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was true. Nike actually tried to sign Fernandez out of college, too. Ex-Nike employee Josh Rowe is now with NB and is quickly making a big splash, signing athletes and getting title sponsorship of a few events. Lukas has a few more races to run as a prep, but it wouldn't be surprising if he went pro and it was NB signing the big checks.
He should turn pro out of high school. It worked for Rupp.
Would NB sponsor a budding triathlete? Hasn't Lukas said that long-term he wants to focus on triathlon?

What company would LV sign with. Everyone says NB, but he was runnung in ADIDAS in Boston and is going to the NIKE-school...
