Just ran 10 miles in a pair of those atrocious slip-ons and it actually felt good.

I think you're on to something. Super-minimalism; no heel-toe drop, no superfluous cushioning. If the shoe fits...
Fashion-wise, I love the ones with laces. I feel like I look like Jim Ryun.
I ran in them again today and I must say...I like these for running. The traction sucks but oh well.
never planned a run in them, but have broken into a run while wearing them and noticed how nice they feel - I could get into running in them.
Almost like that time I went for a nice 5 miler in crocs

They are standard espadrilles. To call them atrocious is naive and ignorant. These shoes have been popular in Europe and Southern America for centuries, but you stupid Americans think they are some new invention by a guy named Tom.
They're atrocious.

The only stupid Americans would be the ones who would actually put those things on their feet. There is a reason those things have been popular in Europe for centuries and I don't think you want to hear that reason.
No, but I saw two 13 year old girls running in a pair the other day.
I ran in Toms the whole summer before my senior year of High School. Averaged just under 80 miles per week and ended up running sub-15:00 for the 5k. I also developed chronic achilles problems so some pros and some cons
True Story: My 10 y/o daughter jumped in a kids' CC race in her Toms and slayed. It was her 1st race and she does not run competitively anymore, but we still talk about that race.
I didn't know those were still a thing. Crocs, Toms, no wonder this country is going down fast.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
