Simple questions:
1). What is the biggest indicator you use to decide when you need new training shoes?
2). How long/many miles do your training shoes last?

I'll get some new trainers once I start feeling some weird, random aches and pains in my lower legs. That will usually be around 400miles or so for me.
About 500 miles. Or when my knees start to hurt.
usually less than 4 laps
I've got 1200 going on some right now. Probably going to get rid of them soon, my legs are feeling a little wierd when I run in them. I only wear them on my morning runs though, my evening runs (main run) I wear a different pair of trainers.
I usually put 400 miles on a pair, then I throw them through the wash and sell them on Ebay for about half of what I bought them for.

around 2,000 miles for me. I usually get some aching in my ankles around then.
About 2000. I usually get new shoes when the uppers get torn and start cutting my ankles.
Damn, how much do those of you who run ~100mpw spend on shoes per year?

(100x52 weeks)/ 500 miles each = 10.4 Pairs
10.4 pairs x $75 (average after discounts etc.) = $780 per year.
About 1000 miles.
I think that they last longer since I do little running on hard surfaces (90% trail and grass).

Probably half of the cash I win at local races goes to new shoes. Wife takes the other half... :(
I keep track of my mileage for each pair and generally change them around 350 - 400. Once I put 450 - 500 on a pair I'll start to get shin splints which is the signal for me to get knew shoes. I also sometimes get a minor case of plantar fasciitis around 450 miles which is a signal I need to change them. I also only use one pair of shoes at time. I've heard that switching between 2 pairs every other day extends the life of shoes but I've never tried it.
