I don't know if the Kenyan teenager who won last year, fresh off a medal at World Junior XC I believe, is back. If so I assume he'll win again. But there's no prize money so I can't understand why an elite would show up except to promote Nike, which I assume is why Bairu and Yoder-Begley are here.

But is Bairu in 22 min shape these days or is he slightly off in 23 min shape? Kind of similar the race he was in with Webb earlier this year. Webb has the 3:46 pr but he has pretty much been a high 3:50's to a 4:00 flat guy for a while now. Webb only beat Luke by a few seconds. Could this be a similar situation for this race?
Nope. Bairu will beat Lukas by a minimum of 30 seconds.
You are talking about Simon Bairu? A 28 year old who trains under Jerry Schumacher? He's on a whole other level. But I don't know where Bairu's training is at, so yeah I guess there could be some chance Lukas beats him. But its kind of like asking if a top rated high school offensive lineman could win a starting job in the NFL. The answer is no. I don't care how talented the high school player is.

I doubt Bairu's in top shape. He hasn't raced since the NYC marathon in November. I was really surprised he didn't go to World XC after finishing just outside the top ten there last year. He must have been injured.
Verzbicas is presumably in triathlon training now, right? Also probably not in top shape.
I don't really think they'll finish that close to each other. It's just interesting that this race has an elite "field" of one top professional (per gender) and the country's best HS runner.

Are you serious? If you double LV's 5000 time, he us still almost a minute short of Bairu's 10000. At this distance, Bairu is an elite runner, and LV is an elite high schooler (for now).
This is like asking if Ritz could beat...well...any elite marathoner.

The Chicago Marathon folks, who put on Shamrock, have a tough time getting results posted. Hopefully they'll pop up soon.
