Hello letsrun,
I am a junior at a mid-major d1 school. After last fall I decided to transfer to this school after being on a team that made nationals. I had some disagreements with the coach that led me to leave. At my old school we never once went into the weight room to lift. At my new school, we are in the weight room 2-3 teams a week. And im fine with that. The problem is the routine we have going on in there! We are doing lifts such as bench press, incline bench press, lots of low repetition squats, and also lots of shouldar lifting. Is this really the stuff that makes distance runners successful? The school im at now has talented kids that work hard and are making exceptional improvements year in and year out. But my old school, who lets just say is very good, didnt do any of this type of lifting, and my new one does. WE more or less just focused on running and being the best runner we could (as the coach always preached). It brings me to wonder if other top teams around the nation lift at all? just incorporate core? do heavy lifting? I am not complaining that what I do is wrong, just trying to get a feel on what others are doing!
Thanks
