Hello, McFly ...
DC is fricking awesome when compared to Detroit.
As a DC resident I am appalled that the federal government will be shutting down. This shutdown will cripple our local economy, and will shut down basic services like trash collection in the district. You can debate all you want as to if DC is a nice city, but if the government shuts down it will literally become a stinky dirty city with trash piled up on the streets. On the plus side it will be nice to run without all the tourist strolling 3 abreast on the sidewalks, or their ginormous baby strollers.
define "very rich"
as a research contractor at the Department of Commerce, my contract money is already set aside, so as long as I can show I'm working from home (powerpoints, reading papers, etc.), I get paid :)
so yes, there will be lots of running
DC DESERVES to get it. People have been living so fat and happy for the past 5 years they see nothing of the unemployment and hard times that almost everyone else has been going through, outside of DC. An eye-opener is badly needed.
DC Haters,
Give it a rest. Want to hear running plans from the good civil servants out there.
@washingtondcwonk-
beginning of the week: lots of sleeping in until 10 or 11, running in the heat of the afternoon, right when I'd normally be stuck in lab.
end of the week: hopefully caught up on sleep by now, so running hard in the mornings, maybe some light doubles in the evening.
been averaging mid 70mpw these last few weeks. catching up on sleep will be nice. might bump up to 80 or 85.
looking forward to it! hope all you other fed workers aren't too strapped for cash and can enjoy a week or so of spring training!
So which political party loses the most with a shut down?
Are more people mad at the Democrats for not giving into demands to cut expenses to the exact amount that the Republicans are asking for?
Are more people mad at the Republicans for not compromising?
A shut down is not good and will not be looked favorably by most voters.
I was thinking about this whole government shutdown thing today at lunch and came to the realization that it is not going to have almost any impact on my life.

Get a clue. 25% of the ward 7 + 8 population is unemployed.

Get a clue. 25% of the ward 7 + 8 population has been unemployed for 30+ years. Nice try.

HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!
The city of Washington was built on a stagnant swamp some 200 years ago, and very little has changed. It stank then, and it stinks now.

Why do you hate black pmpeople?

That would be "downtown" Washington. Yeah, that part of town is pretty awful save for a few buildings on the Mall.
The rest of the city is great though. Basically, everything in the NW and small parts of NE are some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in America.
You obviously missed out big time. I feel sorry for you tourists who buy the wrong map of the city. Suckers.

theres been atleast 3 times this year we've already had this conversation
everyone will get paid what they deserve
its not that big of a deal
except, mass media will spin it one way or the other and convince america to vote either for the R or D candidate in 2012. this will be a result of a huge sum paid by either the DNC or the RNC to those major media outlets over the period of the next month (this is only if a shut down occurs)
If they retroactively pay furloughed employees, then I strongly disagree that everyone will get paid what they deserve. I'm essential (and live nowhere near D.C.!) and will be working midnight shifts this next week. I won't be paid at all until the shutdown is over. Then if they pay everyone else who was furloughed retroactively, how would everyone get paid what they deserved? I will have received my normal pay for working mid shifts all week, while others will have received their normal pay for sleeping in, watching TV, going out of town for a few days, etc. How is that fair?
If you don't like it, find a new employer.

Oh I like it, but if they're going to shut down, they need to really shut down...all of it. I guarantee then that it won't last long, and will never happen again if they shut it all down just once.
Why should regular Federal employees have to pay the price for Congress not doing their job. The Budget was due by September 30, 2010. It is now April 7, 2011. What would happen if you or I were over 6 months late doing our most important job duty?
DC is fine during the day, but my brother was mugged at night. My friend's cousin was shot four times in the chest because his Mercedes looked nice - at night.
DC is in the top 10 cities for those wanting to be raped, murdered, have their property damaged, or have their car stolen. Specifically, if you want to go by violent crime, DC sits right in between Philadelphia and Stockton (violent crime per capita).
DC can be good, but flee indoors when the sun goes down and leave your Porsche in your garage.
