I was looking forward to the April 1st Front Page. It's always good. I don't know if they'll ever match 2004, but it is usually good for a laugh. As a loyal letsrunner, today's page let me down.
What say you?

Seems like not very much effort was put into it this year.
The "truth is stranger than fiction" section was good.
Yeah, it was pretty good. The Meb thing was actually convincing at first, but I remembered as soon as I saw Teg in the 10k - that'd be too big of a shock for me.
....first year i wasnt fooled :(
It needed more of a slow burn strategy. I didn't realize it was April Fools Day so when I saw the first story about Webb making a marathon debut at Boston I was just like WTF. It needed to bait the reader along a little better.

Agreed.
VCU makes the final four and a white guy breaks 10 flat for 100m is pretty outrageous.

Someone is trying much too hard. Was there anything else related to April Fools on the page?
I agree, I thought previous years were more comical, and also had some more believable stories.
When you start laying the ground work 2 days in advance and the story gets busted immediately it means you're trying way too hard. And failing.

I may be misunderstanding you but the Webb leaving Salazar story is true. Is that what you are referencing?
It was amazing how many funny threads on the board were shut down by the monitors.
They were shut down because they didn't want them to take face time (or ink if you prefer)from the front page.
I thought it was so wimpy, they should have had a picture of Rupp.
"Galen Rupp Leaves Salazar" would have been a better one.
Way disappointed. This is usually the highlight of my year. I know the __Jos have day jobs, but this year was a spoiler...
ROJO doesn't have a day job.

Man this website is negative :)
My training partner (perhaps I should say, the guy I go run with really slow) called me early in the morning saying he fell for the Meb quote of the day.
Then I was talking to Dave Bedford, head of the London Marathon, and when he commented it on it that was all the validation I needed.
We did do a different approach this year. Meb running Boston is not a crazy idea so we led with that. The Rojo tantrum story was more overthetop.
Last year was more comical. We led with a quote with Russian officials questioning the effectiveness of doping and then "President Obama Rips Ultra Successful Nike Oregon Project" and "Usain Bolt Leaves a Club Early." The headlines were more comical but less believable.
I wonder if one year if we should just have one fake story and the rest all real.
