I'm a usual open 400 and 4X400 runner - that's all I've ever ran competitively in (I'm still in high school). But I decided that I need a little change and I'm gonna sign up for the 4X800 relay on Friday, as well as the 4x4. I'm a little unsure of this, especially since I'm a horrible runner and I'm not fond on anything over 600 meters. But the 400 isn't getting boring, just routine. I'll say now, I'm terrible at running and I do it for the excercise. My best 400 time (in a competition) is 1:16, and my worst is 1:23.
My question is this:
Is it a good idea to go from doing only 400's to trying out a 4x800 once?
And if so, instead of training with mid-D this week, should I run with big-D? Or still run with mid-D and extend my work outs at a slower pace? Or do nothing different?
The meet is Friday the 23rd, so I have 3 training days left (2 if Thursday is just a recovery/rest day).
Any opinions?
