Real ones, not with the knees. For guys, I think the number in a set is about 30. For girls, maybe about 3. I've dates lots of thin women who couldn't do a single regular pushup. Are men really that much stronger?

no...
i can do 25 real push ups in a set. most of the girls i know that are solid runners can do that too. the most push ups i've done continuously is 50, but i wasn't trying to do more/don't care enough to see if i can do more. i'd rather go out and run.
you just need to meet different girls

That's right:
http://www.eatliver.com/i.php?n=2637I do 20 "real push-ups" each morning without straining. They're really not that hard for a woman. Of course, those posting regularly on this board are both lighter and fitter than the average US woman.
I think any woman should be able to do at least 10.
I bet the average woman can't do 2 "girl" push ups.
My wife and I did the 100 push up plan (you can find it online) she started by only being able to do 10 and after 3 weeks she was doing 45. We stopped because we lost interest but the other day she wanted to test herself and she could still do 34. It actually made her arms look a little ripped and real sexy. Only took like 6 minutes 4 times a week.
legit pushups for females in general, i'd say 10. females that are good runners probably 15-20.
OP i would say you are above average
woops, thought the OP was a girl that said she could do 30
OP, Do you make all your dates do push-ups?
I'd agree that for an average runner-chick, 20 is very doable without any specific training.
For your average suburban mall-crawler, less than 5.
Truth is, most women are going to focus on their abs if they have a little time for supplemental exercises. Guys will be more likely to do push-ups to prevent man-boobs.

I can do zero real ones, and I'm fit and thin. It's a mystery to me why I can't...contestants on the Biggest Loser show can do them, but I can't?! Oh well. At least I can take pride in having pretty (delicate) arms, wrists and hands.
On my knees, I can manage 20.

Man, its getting steamy in here!
14 years old and 50 to 60 real pushups. I can do 25 full extension pullups and chinups.
30 pushups for guys is a joke. The average distance runner - college or post college should be able to do a set of 100 when rested, at least 85 if pushups were done the day before.

My daughter is the same age and can do about the same of each; doing some gymnastics does help in her case. She made more than a few coins beating the boys in middle school on the peg board.
Pushups are absurdly dictated by your height, as are all bodyweight exercises. I can bench maybe 180-190 right now, but can only do 50 pushups straight through without rest according to military rules. I am 6'4" tall, though.
I call BS on a runner chick being able to do 50 proper pushups where their nose, chest, abddomen and knees all touch the ground at the same time on each rep, and arms are locked in the up position each time. My wife weighs 123 and can bench 130 and can only do about 25 or so in one set.
And I call absolute bull on people claiming most male runners can do 80-100 in one set with proper form. I see some of these "pushups" and they are usually half pushups.
"Good" by my standards is 1 per pound of body weight for girls...my elite standard is 5 per pound
Well actually she is 110 and can bench 130 and can lift a 45 lb bar 75 times. This is to the guy thinking this is BS. Pushups are subjective but I can tell you she has been picked out many times for doing good form pushups.
How fast? Because that really determines how many ANYONE can do. Do 2 a sec and you can do a lot, do 1 in 5 sec and a 10 is an ok number for a guy already. Women? Probably 2.
1 per sec? men 30 (=ok), women 5.
Faster than 1 per sec? 90% would lack form.

I'll make the observation that only the most underendowed of runner chicks are going to be able to do this -- due to female proportioning, the chest is going to hit the ground before the nose/abdomen/knees when the posture is correct.
This isn't a practical standard for most women :)
