Great runner and awesome person, I hope can win.
There's a huge tailwind on the course and temp. is cool. Should be fast times.
2:27.03 for hastings #8 all time USA
great race.

On the other hand, those deep puddles they had to dodge couldn't have sped things up. Plus the announcers were talking about the rain blowing straight in their faces after mile 20.
Did she win?
Buzunesh Deba won
I'm in LA and there was a 20-30 mph tailwind for 99% of the race.
Fantastic race, the course was all over the place, and you could see the rain blowing in every direction.
Amy is awesome.

That's very precise, LA. Where exactly was the 1% (0.262 miles) of the course that wasn't a 20-30mph tailwind??
Nobody gives a rats ass about downhill ,uphill , wind or rain.
The chick put her head down and tried to win the damn thing , several great surges.
Every american male should take a minute and look at the tape , this is how you put your heart into it , this is desire , this is not settling for top american bullshit , its going for the win at the expense of loosing it all.
Hey , why dont you all stay home and plan your season , don't go to world cross because its to hard , it doesn't fit into my season , tell that to the Africans.
It seems our women are not afraid to win or die trying.

This is amazing even the second time around. She really crushed it out there. Very solid debut from Hastings!
From the Los Angeles Times:
Hastings, 27, posted the fastest marathon time (2:27:03) by an American woman this year and became the eighth-best American performer all-time. It was her first marathon.
"I didn't realize how fast I was going," said Hastings, a former All-American distance runner at Arizona State. "That might have been to my benefit in this one."
Not taking anything away from Amy. It was a very good race for her. Just saying that there was a strong tail wind for a large part of the race, and since you mentioned it, it was also downhill. Both of those things affect the time.
...and it rained more than one inch during the race, and there were puddles to slosh through. Both of these things also affected the time.
Why are people trying to explain away her 2:27. Second in a major marathon is an awesome performance n o matter the conditions. In fact, the times were a little slower than the previous two years, so maybe there were some factors that slowed down the times. I am not going to try to take away from Amy's awesome performance/time just because I cannot match her time. By the way, the downhill is less than that of Boston and because of unequal heating of water vs land, there are often strong headwinds heading toward the water.
Hastings did amazing. Watching her early in the race, I thought she was going to drop like Paige Higgins did last year when she tried to keep up with the lead pack. LA's new course is actually pretty tough. There's some nasty hills (up and down) and sharp turns. Then slamming into a cold, downhill 5K at the end is no fun. I was in the elite field in 2009 and 2010. The 2009 course was easy. This new course was a shock to a lot of people. Even Kenyans and Ethiopians were complaining about it and hurting the day after last year. So, yea...it trends down hill BUT in the meantime, it shoves you up hills and then slams you down hills to make that downhill trend. It's not any easy coast down to the ocean. If anything, they were lucky they had clouds/rain too. Last year was hot till the chilly last 5K. Though, I'm sure the puddles sucked. The roads aren't the greatest in some spots.
The announcers were atrocious during this race. Also the race coverage of the silly cheerleaders was absurd. However, towards the end when they had the split screen with the mens/womens leaders was pretty cool. How many times did they drop Hastings and she fought back. Geneti was hella smooth as well.
