Everyone thinks about "what ifs" all the time. This so happens to be a legitimate case in which two athletes had a good chance of going to OU and could have potentially have won them the NCAA championship. A pretty big deal. He is not arguing that Florida doesn't deserve the title or there is some injustice. I think it is rather interesting that OU was that close to getting the title.

Martin Smith will never be coach of the year because of things like this. He has definite abilities as a trainer, but he cant get along with people long enough to make things work most of the time. His hotheaded ways have gotten him to shoot himself in the foot more than once, which often leads to, guess what, athletes wanting to leave!

And athletes transferring happens all the time at schools, so NO, Oklahoma hasnt won anything. Good try though, troll.

Dude, you're embarrassing OU.

I doubt Martin wants any of this crap on the internet. I would bet he lays it down hard to his athletes not to spout off about the program on the internet. But he has a lot of supporters who saw all the outrageous attacks against him on this site back in 2005.

He's a great coach.

Jack Whitt was never ever going to Oklahoma. Realy what needs to be thought about is yes Will Claye but also getting Ronnie Ash to stay. They would have won the championship. Jack was going to ORU or Kansas never OU. They will never have a good vault program. Good vault coach we will see. They will never get a good vaulter because he will not offer much. The future state champion from Jenks will be going to ORU also. He will vault 17.00 in high school, he is a junior.

ronnie ash went pro a year early. if he would have stayed...10 points right there. will claye transferred because his coach left. if his coach would of stayed AT LEAST 14+ points. mookie salaam who won the 200 had the fasted 60m in the country had a bad race and finished 8th. if you do the math there easily could of been another 30 points. yes the team would have placed very high if all of those things happened.

I don't think he's saying "what if" as in they should have won the championship. I think its more a knock against the coach that he could have and screwed it up.

When kids leave early, or transfers because of a coach that recruited them leaves, there is something not right. There have been others besides Claye and Ash. As long as The OU coach wins big 12 championships it does not matter. It has to be eating at him to have been so close to a NCAA Championship.

Oklahoma can win the Ventolin^3 National Championship.

Some of you guys are literally too stupid to insult.

Once Tony McQuay got injured (losing Florida points in the 200 and 400) and Florida already had the title locked up they basically did the 4x4 as a victory lap, (at one point it was reported they were scratching).

So if we're talking about "what if's", what if McQuay hadn't gotten hurt? Going by seed, 1st in the 200 (10 points), second in the 400 (8 points), plus they run the 4x4 with him and maybe get third (6 points). Plus their thrower came in hurt and missed out on additional points. Florida might have scored 80 points.

Every team deals with transfers and injuries. They don't give out trophy's for who might have been the best, they give them to whoever was the best on that given day.
