Could any of you win the Women's NCAA DI meet solo?

1. Yeah good luck running a 10:51 4k as part of a 6-event weekend.

2. Really you want to feel superior this badly?

It would be really hard, I could probably win the 400, 800, mile, 3k but at some point you are going to be running races less than an hour apart. Only person that could do this would be a legit decathlete or like a pro distance runner.

I wouldn't win the sprints or the distance events but I could score in the 2,4 and 8 and take the long, triple, maybe the shot and the hept.

But Oregon scored 67 points. They effed the country up and embarrassed A&M at home. I could not beat them in a solo effort.

I certainly couldn't (given that I can't run at all, and am an old fart besides), but I'd have to think that a national-level decathlete could do it--do we have any of those on this board?

A legal jump in the LJ, a legal put (well, maybe two--that 4kg ball takes some getting used to) in the SP, and the 400 (multiple rounds there, though) would be a good start. Assuming the decaguy could put in some practice time for the (non-dec) TJ and WT, there should be some points in those (again, multiple legal efforts probably not required).

And the HJ and PV should be ripe for the plucking, but there's the potential for multiple heights and protracted competition in both those events, meaning conflicts with other events...

Of course, a top-class decathlete should also win the 60, but the hurdles would be pretty tough (too low and close together)--hmmm...

I guess I'd say that a Bryan Clay type would be enough of an *athlete* to score 60-70 points, but the logistics of getting through all those events/rounds (including conflicts on the time schedule) would make it a difficult proposition.

As far as an LRC distance runner: NFW.

a good college decath could easily.

4 minute mile type guy to do it I think. They could jog the 5k, 3k, 800 and mile. Even with trials those wouldn't be hard. 9:11 is like tempo effort. He could probably place high or win (50.8 after a 52 to get to finals) in the 400 and might be able to steal a couple in the 200 about a 23.0. I don't think he could score anywhere else. But that would give him a shot.

At this point, I couldn't score a point in anything.

The question is could a decent distance runner score any field event points.

400, 800, mile, 3k, 5k are easy enough for a good male miler. But now you have to win the DMR and get second in the 200. No easy feat, because 2nd in the 200 is 22.87, while winning the DMR means running 13:33 pace for 4000 meters. And it's a crazy 4000 meters, it's not like you can sit and kick while girls are running 53-second 400's.

I think the number of males who could do it is pretty small. Sub-23 AND good at 5k?

If you win the mile you displace 5 or 6 Oregon points, so you only need 62-63 then. Winning 6 events, so long as 1 of them is the mile, would be enough, so long as you can displace another Oregon girl or two.

I think we can easily say that with two male athletes, they would destroy Oregon or any team in the NCAA. I think it would be too dificult for one man to get through 7 seven events with rounds in two days (especially with the scheduling). Without rounds... no questions asked someone on LR would clean up.

This is my breakdown:

400 - 10

800 - 10

mile - 10

200 - anywhere from 4-8

HJ - 10

60H - 4-6

60D - 2-4

LJ - 4-6

sp - 4-6

weight - 1-2 (more technical than the shot)

3k - 6-10 points (depends on how much energy I'm trying to use)

DMR - 4-6 points (if this is the last event and I get at least 45 mins to recover)

So on a high I can score 78 points on the low I can score 69 which should be enough to win it. My stats 1:49/4:02.

The only running event that will take a toll is the 3k and the DMR. The short sprinters will have the speed advantage but those events won't tax me. The field events will need some practice but I should be able to do 6'3, 20'something, with one attempt in each as long as the high jump is after one of the dashes so that I am properly warmed up. I think a miler would be the best bet to do this as they can dip into the sprints for points a true distance guy should get some 400 points but will miss out on the 200/60/60h and probably all of the jumps and throws.

Looking at the times400 m 50.79800m 2:041 mile 4:333000 9:135000m 16:04is something pretty much every single sub 4 guy indoors can do. Heck I bet most(a few will struggle with the 400m tim) sub 4:15 guys could do all those times given 24 hours. The question then is can you do the DMR or the 200 or one of the field events. I imagine a sprinter (55,60h, 200, 400, lj,tj, maybe HJ) could do this also. And obviously a decathlete would destroy the woman in everything under 800ms

The 3k+5k is a lot easier than the DMR. I would be surprised if running a 9:00 3k or 16 min 5k took anything out of 4:02 runner even if your coming at the event from the speed size.I am little curious if you have ever HJ or LJed? I know in HS, the distance runners used to fool around a couple times year and with no training we would have some guy jumping 5'8 or so but that is a long way from 6"3. I am also surprised that you think you can score as well in the 60s as in the 200m.

Really, running 4k at 13:30 pace will make you tired? Damn, you suck.

You're right. Scratch the DMR and replace that with the 5k. was reading the post and wrongly assumed the DMR would be easier. My blow. I'd actually win the 3k and 5k but can't stand doing the distance races.

If you could take the mile that would be key. You could really disrupt the Oregon points in that one.

Also scoring in the 60m would be tough for most people. Those girls are fast. Most of these ladies will be running between 10.90 and 11.25 in the coming months and years. Not many people can run that.
