I can't pretend I didn't feel bad for Jordan there, taking the lead the whole anchor leg, then not being able to respond at the end. Girl is tough as nails and the tears definitely showed how much she wanted to win it for her team. I saw that coming, as Reid was completely fresh and Hasay had to run 4:39 a couple hours before.
Bright future for both girls, and certainly some great performances coming from both tomorrow!!

10:52 for both teams, what a race! Kesselring opened up with a 3:20 as well, over a second faster than anyone else.
Reid was fresh and simply has better leg speed anyway. She could just sit on her and go at the end, like NCAA XC.
Can KVB beat her (Hasay) in the mile? she has run 2.41.0 for the 1km this winter (NCAA record). Should be a good battle along with Van Dalen and Reid in the 3000m. Can the Canadians win?

What was Hasay suppose to do? She was in a lose-lose situation. Head-to-Head against a fresh runner that is more of a strength runner. Option 1) Push the pace, make herself more tired, play to Reid's strengths, finish second. Option 2) Let the pace lag, let half a dozen teams into the race for a sprint finish. It is a lose-lose. In that last couple of years, I think only Manzano (his senior year) would have chosen option 2 and been able to pull it off. Hasay was in a lose-lose situation.
Reid split 4:29.97. Hasay split around 4:30.4. That's a half second difference right there, and Hasay was coming off a 4:39 (2:26, 2:13) mile prelim, while Sheila Reid, a very strong and experienced runner, was completely fresh.
It was a very tough set-up for Hasay and I thought she handled it extremely well. Great performances from both!

Hey look u can't give hasey a hard time. she put it all out there ran a pr for mile which is prolly not that far off of her 1500m pr converted, after running a prelim.
i know hasey has been the child prodigy the last few yrs but she's racing someone who's 3-4 yrs older than her who was fresh.
don't forget reid ran a great mile against some pros about a month ago. This girl should beat hasey. it would be like jenny barringer sitting on jordan hasey in a DMR.
jordan showing that kind of emotion is a good thing. i wouldn't want to be the one having to face her in that 3k, reid better watch out.

Uh, Sheila = WAY older than Jordan.
They are both great runners; let's not disparage either one of them. Hasay will have her own moments in the next couple years, and it's great that she shows that kind of emotion because it shows how bad she wants it, not just her individual hunger for victory, but to bring the title to her teammates as well.
Both ladies ran great, end of story.

Age doesn't matter in womens running. Great race for both teams and athletes.
2 years (1991 vs 1989) isn't WAY older, it's older. Only in age obsessed America (where everybody else in the world somehow cheats due to age) does it matter for performance. Last I saw there weren't age categories in the NCAA, i.e. the Frosh still race against the Seniors. Hasay will get her due in the coming years, but this crap of excuses as to why it is almost unfair that people are older is why a guy who will be 37 years old is the top American runner. Hopefully it is only the whiners on this board, and not the athletes themsleves who care about the age of their competitors or they are already at a psychological disadvanatge as athletes.
Jordan is going to have to hold off women that aren't too slower than her, but a win the 3K would be phenomenal!

Sheila Reid clearly has better leg speed than Jordan. I think Reid would have outkicked her even if Hasay had not run in the mile prelims earlier. However, I applaud Hasay's grit and competitiveness. She's a strength runner, and will gradually move up in distance.
