I've been doing about 85-95 mile weeks for a couple of months now. I decided to run a 10k this morning after a couple of easy days of running. I ran it almost 2 minutes slower that when I ran the race last year. I was doing about 60 mile weeks about the same time last year. Overall, I didn't feel particular tired during the race despite only 4 hours of sleep but I didn't feel that that strong either. I can probably say about the same for my workouts/tempo runs in general. I used to be able to run tempos a few years ago at around 5:40-5:50 pace but these days I'm almost 30 seconds slower in pace.
I'm 37, so I don't know if I'm just getting older and my recent race reflects that or if I'm my body is still trying to adapt from running high mileage.
Any thoughts or advice from others who have been through a similar situation??
I have a half-marathon coming up in a about a month so most of my training will for focus on that race. Should I reduce my mileage during this sharpening phase??
