I am currently a high school senior,I live too far away from school to do morning runs, and I have too much homework to do night runs without sacrificing sleep. Though my coach does not care if i do high mileage, with the practices and workouts our team does, it is really hard for me to hit above 40 miles per week. over the summer i ran sixty mile weeks and came into cross country really strong, but for the last 3 years i feel like i have been having trouble hitting the track times i want to hit because i feel my team simply does not do enough distance. what should i do? should i just start skipping practices to run at home? Talking to the coach is not an option. he has continually told me "distance doesn't matter" and stresses that only workouts will make me a better track runner.
Typical week:
Monday workout 4-5mi
Tuesday distance 6-7mi
Wednesday workout 4-5mi
Thursday distance 6-7mi
Friday easy run 3mi
Saturday race 3-4mi
Sunday long run (on my own) 10-13mi
weekly total 36-44mpw
