Is Lukas Verzbicas an American?
Is Lukas Verzbicas an American?
I dont know, but he sure gets alot of attention here vs an Ethiopian HS kid.
Either way, if he is not American, he sould become one!
No
HE moved to the United States when he was a little kid, he was born in lithuania, is now an american citizen.
According to this site he recently became an American citizen.

if he is now an american citizen, the interesting question becomes "how?"
Sure, I know how it usually works for legal residents who decide to apply for citizenship. But he is a minor. Did his parents become citizens? Or did he somehow become a citizen without them becoming citizens?
No he is not. As far as I am concerned, he is Lithuanian, since he runs under that nationality. I am sick and tired of every top runner from around the globe, especially the Africans, "becoming" Americans and overshadowing our real American runners. You are born in Kenya? Fine. Rune under the flag of your birth. Don't steal our real American athlete's thunder. Thoughts? God bless. - Dingo
This fortress mentality of Anglo culture is under siege from all corners.
What makes the US a great place is everybody has a shot, and can be part of the process. Nobody is excluded because of where they were born. This is not the case in most other countries. Try becoming a naturalized Japanese citizen.
The name of the man running the largest mutual fund company in the world? Mohammed. Who hired him? Bill.
The notion being "from" a place means you belong, and not being born there means you are excluded will go the way of the fax machine.
What is the real criteria of being American - "If you want to be". Does LV want to be American/US citizen? Absolutely. He does not have to choose, so why should he? Its not like he is voting on which place is "better".
Come on, hes been in the United States since he was a little kid. At what point did he run under Lithuanian nationality? I agree with you in the case of adult runners "becoming" Americans at such a late point in their life, but not in this case.
Yes. Are you an agent for the Taliban?

I hate to blame the Brojos for everything - they've had a tough week - but I think they may have caused the confusion with the first post in this thread:

I was surprised to see "Lukas Verzbicas LTU" as if that was an official designation. I visited the NB meet website and found "USA" listed next to Lukas's name.
Then I remembered that he has represented the US in international triathlon and duathlon competitions, and so really it was silly to think he might represent Lithuania as a runner.
So how did those three letters "LTU" get in there in the first place?
Cut it out! The hell's the matter with you? Stupid! We're all very different people. We're not Watusi. We're not Spartans. We're Americans, with a capital 'A', huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts!

yeah man, I am all for diversity in a country, but this is nuts and I agree 100% it's gotten a little out of hand.
