Pat Casey ran 3:59.76 in Bozeman tonight at the MSU double duel meet. First unadjusted sub 4 in Montana. He ran it solo, getting almost 4 seconds in front by 200 meters.
I don't recall the exact NCAA adjustment for the mile in Bozeman but I think it is 5.22.
Impressive run. He looked very, very strong.

I agree... that race was in the running for the top NCAA mile performance so far this year.
He's competitive for nationals.
1. Third at NCAA indoors last year after being the only one to mix it up with Lee Emmanuel.
2. Made it to cross nationals as an individual.
3. Soloed a 3:59 at 5000 feet on a friday after school.
But to be fair, MSU has a sweet banked 200m board track. It's not like UW but it's a fast track for an old plywood oval.
They have mondo on top of the boards. It's not just plywood like ISU

He ran a 3:59.
He didn't run a 3:54.
Just because the adjusted time says it is faster, doesn't mean he ran that fast.
He ran 3:59, end of story.
It doesn't mean that when he goes down in elevation he will run a 3:54.
Actually Altitude adjustment means exactly that. He gets to 0ft. and with the exact same conditions, same track, same competition, same temperature in the indoor arena.

Oh yeah, the serious lack of oxygen probably helped his performance tremendously...I bet he would have run even faster if he had put a plastic bag over his head.

Wow, that was even more impressive to watch! It'll be interesting to see what this kid does when he toes the line w/ other people of his caliber, i.e. nats.

It's an amazing run even at sea level. The kid just flat out got after it, just about lapping the entire field.
I don't care if he becomes another Steve Magness and never runs close to that again. I'll be looking for, and rooting for, Casey in every race for now on.
