I thought the Brojo's front page blog was spot on... Ritz is, well, injury prone in any environment. His best stretch of consistency was when he was training for the marathon under Hudson and probably would've run faster than 2:09:59+ rounded up to 2:10:00 had he not gone out so fast. And he had a scintillating track campaign coming off of that base.
It should be obvious that he should return to that type of training for most of the year, saving his sharpening for short stints and not overdoing it in workouts. He'd probably do well to force a day off EVERY week and run in the pool instead and get copious amounts of rest after the season is over. It's probably not the mileage and long tempos that are marring his career but the pace of his "recovery" runs and interval training.
