It's an interesting strategy.

Indiana now doesn't have to go through the Notre Dame and Washington BS where you have to blow somebody to get your guys into the rabbited sections unless your name is Vin.

They've got their AQ's without leaving Bloomington and now they can sit back and enjoy the comedy and bitching from South Bend and Seattle. Except for the DMR.

I'm not saying running Bayer hard four straight weeks early in the season is good or bad, but man, it's nice for them to not have to worry about the individual AQ's.

They had the same strategy last year and competed well at the Big Tens, but it's safe to say that nobody was all that intimidated by them (no titles for Indiana in the Mile, 3K, 5K or DMR) and won't be again this year, despite the Monopoly money numbers.

Also, someone should tell you that champions are not made in march or June. You are a massive F'tard. Champions are made in the months and years before the championships.

Tell that to Chelanga. He did pretty well friday night. If this were Fernandez or Derrick or Puskedra, the whole board would be going crazy, fanboys predicting 13:10's for outdoors and there would be people already naming him national champ. The fact TWO guys from the same team did this in january, not to mention the fact that bayer would have went 13:3x if he had decided to race instead of rabbit for his teammates and a fourth teammate, Mayhew, went 13:58 in the same race, is pretty awesome. Mark my words, you will be hearing from these fourth Hoosiers in February, March, April, May, and June.

P.S. Don't forget about Turner during outdoors. He qualified for the finals at outdoor NCAA's in the steeple.

Pretty smart to get all the qualifiers out of the way, take it easy for a while, then gear back up for the indoor champs.

...and then at Big Ten outdoors Poore and Turner stomped Wisco in the steeple, Poore destroyed them all in the 5. Bayer got hurt in the 1500 otherwise there would've been further carnage.

March and June is NOT for running fast, it is for WINNING races. Championship races become tactical, not fast.

I thought the Hoosiers were going to be a force in Cross, fell back and had a decent NCAA meet. They are ready to go!

These guys are getting pretty good. The have a reputation for flash early then fading, but as noted above, they did the fade to second(!) at Big Tens and then ran well at NCAAs. This will give them more confidence at NCAA and Big Tens both. It probably hurts Wisconsin most, since it may take away top-end points (and Minnesota has Mead(?) and Blankenship as well and Penn State and Ohio State have...), so Big Tens are going to be a toss up this year.

There are tons of top tier runners (better than these IU guys) that struggle and can't find proper training support after college because they can't perform when it counts and companies are weary to carry them. Think about it this way, if Bayer ran 7:48, how many guys will be just a second or two behind him as the season progresses but be kicking ass all the way through June and continuing to drop times instead of trying to match early season performances.two wisco examples (sort of) are Bethke a 13:25 guy for chrissakes and Gasper who ran a great time early but couldn't do it when it counted.The time of the year takes nothing awa from the performance but you have to put it in perspective. I remember IU being a hands down better than WI at their home invite but nowhere near them at Big tens this fall.The ability of an athlete to perform over the course of an entire season is what ultimately defines their success now a days, not walking away with their name on some list. It's not a videogame, theres no high score, be ready to race!

And their is no racing for the championship title without a fast enough qualifying time. At some point in time you need to run fast enough.

Bethke certainly had some good performance in big meets, doubling with wins the 3000 and 5000.

As for IU being hands down better than UW at the Invite, one of the top UW guys was not run (race-time decision) and UW may have been winning at 7000m.
