I know there are a lot of "what ifs" on letsrun but I thought I'd add another and see what some people thought about my chances.
I'm about 2 years out of any serious training, I'm 25 years old but i've stayed active the last couple of years playing soccer and running on average twice a week. I'm eager to get back into the swing of things as far as training goes and make a stab at a very modest goal (for letsrunners) of sub 16 5k. All of my prs came off about 25-30 mpw and my prs are as follows.
400 - 53 (relay split)
800 - 2:00 (on two occasions, couldn't quite break it)
1600 - 4:37
3200 - 10:20
5k - 16:58 (first track 5k ever, then series of bad races, then never raced that distance again)
10k - 34:19 (cross country)
Not that this sort of thing matters too much, but I'm 6'4" 180lbs, still low body fat percentage as i've put on muscle (I used to weigh about 160-65 when I was in running shape, very weak core then though).
At any rate I've slowly been building my mileage back up with a goal of around 40-50 mpw with of course quality sessions, track work, tempos, etc and a weekly long run.
Is my goal of sub 16 out of the question? Thanks for reading and if you have suggestions please fill me in.
