have sprain of MCL/adductor 1 of the two, not sure which. could use some advice. basically i did a big buildup of miles (75-90mpw) from July to November. off that I ran two PRs at 3K and 5miles in Nov/Dec and was planning to do a half marathon in about 2 weeks (the end of January).
Sometime in late Dec, I got some strange pain on the inner knee. I didnt remember twisting anything. I knew it wasn't runner's knee but I wasnt sure what it was. I could kind of feel it with each step on my runs. I went to go see an ortho doctor and he said it was probably just a mild sprain of the MCL/adductor (cant tell which without an MRI). Xray revealed everything was fine. Im trying to decide if i should race a half marathon or not in 2 weeks to round out my training cycle, then maybe take it easy for a month or so and do another cycle to prepare for some late spring/summer races. I want this sprain thing to heal as fast as possible so I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea to continue training now through some pain and race a half or just take downtime now and prepare for late spring/summer.
For those of you who've had a sprain of some sort, how long did it take to heal? Did it take longer to heal doing some low to moderate mileage while it's healing? Do you recommend just not running and do all pool running and/or cycling instead? Thanks for your help.
