Am I the only one baffled by the line item for MERCHANDISE SALES in the Financial Statement?

I find it VERY STRANGE that the year with the Olympic Trials in (2008), and almost two weeks of sold out attendance and sales opportunities, recorded lower sales than the following year (2009)...when basically nothing happened.
This is a strange organization.
