I read on a past thread but couldn't find it that you can only really do 2 of the following 3 but not all three (I think the post applied to 10k training but not sure):
1. Run high mileage
2. Run most of the miles at a brisk pace
3. Do planned workouts
What do you guys think of this?
I'm not sure if 80-100mpw qualifies for high mileage but that's what I've been averaging for a little over a month now and most of runs are run at a moderate or brisk pace except 1 or 2 days of the week for recovery. I'm finding that my legs are pretty tired going into workouts. I'm not sure if I have giving my body enough time to adapt to the higher mileage or if the mileage and the effort level I'm running is just too much to be able to do workouts.
I suppose I could slow do my runs but I don't find it as enjoyable as running what I'm used to. Being on a compressed time schedule doesn't help either.
Should I keep doing 80-100 at a brisk pace or should I force myself to run slower and/or cut back on miles?
