Hey LetsRun: looking for anyone willing to share past experiences with changing careers, & career counseling.
I am looking to change careers sometimes this year. Although its a tough job market out there, I've had it with my current job and I need to change direction. I have a college degree, excellent references, and I present myself well, so the job search should go well when it happens.
Here's my problem: I have no idea "what I want to be when I grow up". I have a college degree and I've found success within two different career fields, but didn't find a lot of personal drive or satisfaction in either.
I'm thinking about seeking out a career counselor to help guide me in a new direction. Has anyone ever hired a career services company and did you find it to be worth your time/money? After making a couple of calls and doing an internet search, I get the feeling that "Career Counselors" are akin to "Life Coaches" - they have no real credibility, want your money and will take plenty of it while telling you what you already know and what you want to hear.
Any personal experiences out there, or alternative pathways? Thanks in advance for any responses.
