Found a wallet, what should I do?

you know exactly what you should do.

I found a $20 bill once in jr. high and I was so excited (of course, I kept it).

However, if you find a wallet, I'd turn it into Public Safety. I was running this summer on a secluded, forested trail in WI and found a credit card and driver's license buried in the dirt. I didn't have a phone number, so I took a chance adn mailed the cards back to the owner. She ended up sending me a thank you note and a $20 gift card to Target as a thank you. What goes around......may come around.

I lost my wallet in college on a city bus in downtown Long Beach, CA. An old lady picked it up, took the $10 in it and mailed it back to the address on my drivers license (I lived 400 miles away). She even wrote me a little note about where she found it and some info about her. I wish I had reached out and thanked her but I didn't. That was 20 years ago however I carry the note she wrote me in my wallet as a reminder of the kindness of strangers.

You know what to do. Pay it forward.

I lost my wallet once and about a week later I got it back in the mail. My cash was all gone but I got all of my ID's, cards, and stuff back.

Bring it to public safety.

Isn't that what you'd want someone to do if they found your wallet?

Left my wallet in a cab returning from a trip, lots of cash, credit cards, etc.

Had my old address, not in NYC.

Cab driver found it and called the old address. he returned it with all cash/credit cards on the condition I take books on Islam and read about the religion to understand they are not all terrorists. He said don't throw them out, if you don't want them, call me and I'll come get them.

I chucked the books on islam. I don't believe in any fucking god/religion, would have done the same thing with a bible.

Are we the only 2 left? I once found a wallet on a run with many credit cards and $180 in cash (in 1977). I took it back to her address right away and refused any reward money also. Told the lady that if she wanted to give a reward, donate it to a charity or just do a nice thing for somebody else. I have been rewarded for the past 30-some years by realizing I did the right thing. Worth a hell of a lot more than $180. What has become of our populace?

It is remarkable how many people who find wallets usually have the good conscience to get it back to the owner after first removing all the cash in the wallet.

There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses.

One day, a letter came addressed in a shaky handwriting to God with no actual address. He thought he

should open it to see what it was about.

The letter read:

Dear God,

I am an 83 year old widow, living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had $100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension payment.

Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with, have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope.

Can you please help me?

The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up

with a few dollars. By the time he made the rounds, he had collected $96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman.

The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends.

Christmas came and went. A few days later, another letter came from the same old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the

letter was opened.

It read:

Dear God,

How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your gift of love, I was able to

fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift.

By the way, there was $4 missing. Probably those thieving bast@rds at the post office.

I lost my wallet while at the airport in Tokyo a few years ago. After an hour of freaking out and searching, I found that someone had turned it into a service desk. I was very thankful.

Dude, That wallet could make you a fortune if it really can walk. If those NBA teams are dumb enough to keep hiring the "quick change lady" you could make a fortune with your walking wallet.

That may seem so but more likely the less honest people removed the cash and threw the wallet back down. The honest person came along and returned the wallet. Even the crooks know they will get caught using somebody elses creidt card or id.

I've found two full wallets. One, from the IDs, was of a 30ish woman and had about $75 bucks in it. No address in it but I called one of her credit card companies and then she called me and I gave the whole thing back to her.

Another time, walking to a suburban train station, I found a wallet belonging to a guy I had met and knew even more by reputation. It had $300 in it. He was a wealthy lawyer and didn't really need $300, but I returned the whole thing to him anyway. What the heck. Being honest usually is the best policy.

Of course, if I had known he would drop dead on a tennis court about six weeks later, which he did, I might have kept a goodly portion of the money.

Or, the $10 was to pay for an envelop and mailing it, plus her time to send it. I would gladly let someone who found my wallet take $20, or even $40, and personally mail it back to me.

I have twice found wallets. The first one I found with a colleague while eating lunch at a local restaurant. The wallet was lying on the floor under a chair. It contained ID, various credit cards, and a fair amount of cash. We picked it up, looked up the campus address of the owner, and walked it across campus to his office. When he answered the door, we asked, "Are you John Doe?" He said yes, and we then handed him his wallet. He was quite shocked, since he did not know it was even missing. He thanked us, still not knowing what to say really, and we left.

The second one was on an early morning run in the dark. Spotted a wallet lying in the grass of a residential street right-of-way next to the sidewalk. No ID or credit cards inside, but there was strangely some cash (around $32 I think), and a few membership cards. I altered my route and ran by the police station, which was one mile away. Since it was 6:00 a.m., only the night entrance was open. Surprised an officer behind the glass window. Told them I found the wallet. She took it and started to walk away. I asked, "Don't you want to know who I am?" She replied, "Oh yeah" and took down my name and number. I had a strong suspicion there would be no attempt to really figure out who the owner was. My conscience was clear though. Interestingly, one week later, I found $17 in cash lying in the grass within about 1/2 a block from where I had found the wallet. Perhaps that was karma.

I was a valet car parker in DC during med school and once found a congressman's wallet with $2000 dollars in it (it seems a bit fishy now) and found him to return it. He didn't give me any reward but he made a donation to my college for $5000 in my name. It was nice but i wouldve been happy with like 20 bucks or something.
