My wife is Australian and I am an American Citizen. She owns a house in Australia and has done so for quite a few years. She was told by a family member that if she applies for dual citizenship, once she has US citizenship her taxes will skyrocket. Apparently, the Australian government does not want foreigners owning property there, and therefore has greater taxes imposed for those who are citizens of other countries.
If she applied for dual citizenship (which she should easily get since we have been married for 3 years and she has lived in the US for 6 and has a working visa), she would still be an Australian citizen. Would her property taxes increase? Is there any truth to this whatsoever? Where can I find information about this - I have no clue where to begin!
