$130 for an early entry, $160 for late registration. I guess the hedge fund needs an infusion of cash.

can we just boycott these rnr races, let them turn into jog fests, with real runners racing for time elsewhere
if rnr isn't paying you to race their race, don't line up there
rnr gets the money it wants from the 7 hr hippos and real races get strengthened, everyone wins
Yup, can't ever understand the threads about race prices. If it isn't worth it to you, don't run it.

Well, the problem is that the rnr races are so popular that sometimes there's not a good alternative marathon to run nearby at the right time of year when the weather is best. If you're an RD of a smaller marathon, you're not going to schedule yours within 2 months of an rnr race because you won't draw enough runners.
Reasons not to run RNR races:
1. The entry fees are huge and no benefit over the local race in the park that I can see.
2. Overcrowded.
3. They are buying up lots of races and turning them into the Wal-Mart of racing.
4. They are slowly dismantling the elite programs. Therefore killing the front end of the race. This saves them money short term, but will bite them later as the times slow and better runners stop wanting to run slower races. Then even middle pack runners say "gee, it's a slow course, maybe I'll run elsewhere". We can only hope.
Put your money where your mouth is. Run elsewhere.
I said that I would never run another RNR event although there is one in my backyard and I used to like running the San Diego event.
When they went from the slow growth pattern of adding a new race every 2-3 years to adding 2-3 new events per year, marathon relays, half marathon relays, 10Ks and the like I had enough. They are turning everything into a circus event and now that they have started the rock and roll triathlon events where there are bands on the water front, bike route and yes, the run route maybe some of the waddlers will go over there to try the next hotness the fields will at least start to thin out.
They are killing the sport factor of the events where you are now a "winner" just because you signed up. Now they raise prices 30%, just crazy.
These guys are simply responding to the demand currently present. I imagine it won't always be so easy to sell out these macromarathons, so they may as well try to make some money while they can.
Personally I don't like to enrich a race organizer under any circumstances. I can go out and run for free whenever I like. A race has to be pretty special to pay good money for entry, official timing, and a few water stops. JMO
Hate to break it to you, but roadracing has been dead for years.
Look on any race calender for quality races and all you will see are these half/full marathon "events".
Anyone remember when 10K was considered the glamour distance?
If you don't like paying $130 to the hedge fund, maybe you would prefer to volunteer to work at the race.
Not having to pay employees because they can be talked into donating their time to the hedge fund is another great way to keep profit margins strong.
