Prize money at GBTC meet in Boston, Jan 23

Are they having the Men's 5000 at your meet? I would be more than interested in doing it. Is the Gordon track fast?

) but it might be worth contacting the meet director (gbtc_invite@yahoogroups.com) to see if he would put one on if there was interest.

Gordon track seems to be pretty fast for distance runners.

there is also a 5K Jan 20th thursday night at the Armory (couple days before GBTC)

It seems to me that one of the weaker records for the GBTC invite is the 200m time (21.15).

Oh the life of a sprinter....I guess if I could sprint, I would play football too.

I hope to see some fast distance races Jan. 23rd.

Do you really think 21.15 in Janurary is weak?

It's banked, so it is faster than a flat track. But the banks are pretty steep so it can be hard to even run much in lane 2. It forces everyone down and there can be a clusterf*ck if the pace does not string out the field.

I wrote an article for Runner's World about the track when it first opened in the seventies. It was "tuned" that is the bounce of the track and the bank adjusted to be ideal for a 180 lb runner going 48 sec 440yds.

It is a 220 yard track.

The track is a joy. I have loved it since my first workout on it. We had been training on the indoor track a Tufts, a flat one with a tunnel covering two turns. So on our first workout at Harvard Squires said miles in 5:00. I led the first one but coming around for the split and Squires, true to his habit, was talking to someone and didn't give a split so I continued with the same effort that gave 5 min mile pace. Well, Squires didn't get around to noticing us until 3/4 mile when he read out 3:30...
