Is Appys track at enough elevation to make a difference on performance? I am running a 3k there this weekend. I believe it is at 4300 feet.

Have fun Apps track is probably one of the worst indoor tracks in the country.
I think APP is closer to 3500 than 4300.
Beautiful place to train, love the school, but terrible indoor track.
More like 3000-3200 ft. And yes, it's a horrible track. Particularly horrible for spectators.
I've done a fair amount of running in the NC mountains and have never noticed a difference due to altitude.
If you go to the link below and download the conversion program (altitude.exe) it'll figure it out. How fast (or slow) you run also contributes to how much time is taken off (i.e. the slower the time, the more seconds removed). With the program you can select the town as well as the distance raced to determine your official time...
App States Track is terrible! It is also oversized (300 meters). So, any time benifit you get from altitude would likely be nil once you factor in the size.
rumor has it app state's coach feels his track is too fast. Look to see live lions on the 3rd turn to slow the races down this year.
App's track was built to give their team a place to train indoors. It's great for that. Probably the best indoor track to train on in North Carolina. I'd rather run on their 300m octagon than a 200m flat in Chapel Hill.
No where close to 4300, I promise. More like 3,300. In other words, not really enough altitude to make a significant difference.
The track design is really bizarre and it can be disorienting at times since you can only see about 30-40m of the track at any given time. Get familiar with it before your race.
If you haven't heard it enough, App St. is around 3,300 ft and no, that is not high enough to see any kind of decline in performance.
OK, people, the football stadium is said to be at 3333 ft, up the fairly steep hill of Stadium Drive. The track in the Holmes Center is not that far up. Regardless, it's not enough altitude, either way, to worry about.

Since you are essentially running the concourse of the basketball arena the way to run this track is to learn the arena section numbers. That way you know where you are at on the track as you pass each one.
