I wrote a letter to my senator.
My letter is an idea. A proposition. And, possibly an idea to consider for law.
My idea is this;
A) Make joining the military attractive. Add incentives. Make the tenure shorter.
This country has the ability and funds to make it enticing for young men and women to join the military by adding incentives. First, why not offer an exchange of one year of free college for one year of the military service? This could be a win-win. If the government offered selective degrees that there are a shortage of in the US government. Such as Border Patrol. Our borders need more guards. The military could train personel in one year, and offer a good paying governement position as a border patrol, with benefits. The government would create a program for training and degrees in selective colleges. The qualified applicants who fullfill one year, are elidgible.
Second, why not make offers for the one year service personel to re-enlist. My brother was offered a $10,000 bonus. Even if the number is 10% re-enlistment, it would be another win-win.
Third, how about the illegal aliens? Or is it illegal immigrants?
anyway, offer them a one-time deal to become legal citizens of the United States by joining the military. Swear an oath. They would have to do a little longer than one year, and when they are discharged, they are legal U.S. citizens. The people who leave the military will be more loyal to our country, have a social security number, be required to pay taxes, and be a positive addition to our country rather than feeling neglected, working without paying taxes, and driving without insurance. They would have a sense of pride. The country would gain some good soldiers, and hopefull gratefull citizens, and the country could possibly thrive in a forward motion, rather than stagnating and bickering about what to do about the immigartion problems and the borders.
It needs tweaking,and I'm sure the liberals will tear it up.
But, as a Democrat who is a self-described moderate, I find I can not have an intelligent converstion with a liberal. They are not open to other opinions.
It's either their way or "you are wrong" way.
At least conservatives listen.
