Hey guys, I'm a senior in high school who's been having some trouble with my left lower leg.
Late October or early November is when the pain started. I ran through it for about 3ish weeks to get through the season. The pain never got worse, but never got better either.
The pain is where it says "Posterior Shin Splints" in this picture.
But moreso, it feels like it's on the inside of my tibia.
I took a week off after XC and went for a run and felt no pain so I didn't think it was anything serious. I continued to run for a week, but it soon came back. One stupid day I decided to take ibuprofen before a run..of course the run was completely pain free, but a bit afterwards I was in quite a bit of pain, and limping around. It had hurt when walking before, but not as much.
At this point I was pretty convinced it was something with the bone. It was a sharp pain located in a specific area of my shin. I never went to a doctor though, and decided to take almost 4 weeks off. I decided at the end of my 4 weeks off, I should go see a doctor, and I did. They took an x-ray and saw nothing, so he concluded it was just shin splints and to come back if there's still pain after 4-6 weeks, and they will take an MRI. He sent me to a Physical Therapist to work on some muscle imbalances and such.
I've been back running for about 6 days now. I did 4,4, bike, 6, bike, 5. No pain while running yet, but throughout the days after my run, I will feel twinges of pain in the area every so often, and also the area gets sensitive after the runs.
I've been ice bucketing after every run and doing dixie cup massages every night, as well as doing lower leg stretches twice a day. I can't seem to shake this, and I'm really afraid it's going to start hurting while running again soon.
When it was hurting back during xc season and that short time after, it wouldn't really get worse as the run goes on, sometimes not hurting as much towards the end of the run, maybe because I wasn't thinking about it as much, but I would most definitly feel it right from the first step.
Pain occurred when I would push towards the tibia from the back of the achilles and also when I would push towards the tibia from the inside of the achilles. It eventually started hurting when I would walk and go up/down stairs.
Any ideas? If you need anymore information, please ask.
