Anyone have thoughts on building mileage after a number of years jogging. Ran xc and track in college as well as few years post grad. Now taking on a job that allows for more normal day.
Slow as hell now. Used to run 6:00 pace for 50-80 week. Now doing 9:00 pace for 20-30.
Any advice on just moving up from 0 - 30 min slow to 60 min slow and then get faster, or run 30 quicker, then move up in time as it gets more comfortable?
The majority (but not universal) theory is to build up endurance first and then speed. There are lots of approaches to increasing workout mileage, but your individual situation, i.e. weight, how much running in the last several years, susceptibility to injury, racing goals, etc. dictates what will be most efficient. Lydiard's Training for Masters book has some good workout plans if you like lydiard-style training.
so just go out and do 60 min, regardless of distance, once comfortable, pick up the speed?

I would slowly build up your daily average until you get up to 60 minutes or whatever you are comfortable with before trying to go faster. A good pattern for increasing can be found here:

Once you get up to your target amount you will start to run it faster over time. Good luck.
