This is for the middle distance runners and when he handed us the schedule, I was shocked.
Sundays are long runs (10-13), Tuesdays are mileage (55-65 minutes), Thursdays are recovery (40-55). Here are the workouts in between those days:
Monday - Fartlek (7 miles, surges determined by runner)
Wendesday - 4x1500 @ 4:50 w/3 min recovery
Friday - 8x200 @ 32-34 w/ 75 second recovery
Saturday - 20 minute AT (5:50-6:00 pace)
Monday - Fartlek (7 miles - 2x3, 3x2, 3x1 /equal rest)
Wednesday - 8x800 @ 2:17 w/ 3 min recovery
Friday - 16x100 @ 13 w/ 75 second recovery
Saturday - 8 mile Stepping Stone - (6:30 to 5:30 pace)
Monday - Fartlek (8 miles, runner decides)
Wednesday - 3x2000 @ 6:50 w/ 3 min recovery
Friday - 10x200 @ 32-34 w/ 75 second recovery
Saturday - 20 minute AT
Monday - Fartlek (8 miles - 4x3, 3x2, 1x2)
Wednesday - 6x1000 @ 2:52 w/ 3 min recovery
Friday - 18x100 @ 13 w/75 second recovery
Saturday - 9 mile Stepping Stone
Monday - Fartlek (7 miles, runner decides)
Wednesday - 4x1500 @ 4:45 w/ 3 min recovery
Friday - 12x200 @ 32-34 w/ 75 second recovery
Saturday - 20 minute AT
Monday - Fartlek (8 miles, 3x3, 3x2, 3x1)
Tuesday - Back to School
Hard days would be a normal warmup with Fridays incorporating some doubles. Does anyone have experience with this type of winter base and if so, what is the reasoning? Thanks.
