2011 San Francisco Marathon Training Program
Lead Coaches and Assistant Coaches Needed
Lead coach will work in partnership with the San Francisco Marathon Training Program Coordinator to effectively run the training program. Lead coach will assume leadership of trainees, support staff, and pacers at all organized training runs, and will act as a resource for trainees throughout the 26 week program. Lead coach should work closely with assistant coaches and delegate tasks when appropriate.
Lead Coach Responsibilities:
Help trainees determine pacing group
Assign pacers to lead appropriate pace group
Meet with pacers and assistant coaches for a debrief after Saturday runs
Design weekly Saturday morning run course and create maps
Provide links to maps to Coordinator by Monday morning 9am
Email course information and maps to pacers by Tuesday morning 9am
Research ‘topic-of-the-run’ each week and email to Coordinator by Monday morning 9am
Email ‘topic-of-the-run’ info/talking points to pacers by Tuesday morning at 9am
Determine water stop locations and coordinate with Water volunteers
Work with assistant coaches to design and lead weekly track workout
Send weekly email to trainees
Meet trainees along different points of run if possible
Submit attendance sheets, pacer check in/out sheets and supply requests to Coordinator
Coordinate seminars with Coordinator
Organize Socials for Trainees, Coaches and Pacers with Coordinator
Participate in trainee online running forum when appropriate
Communicate weekly with program coordinator about logistics, progress
Meet once a month formally with Coordinator to discuss program progress
Attend 1 info session before season begins
Lead Coach Expectations:
Assume leadership role at all group runs and track workouts
Be ON TIME! Which is always :30 minutes before workout begins
Provide management and support to pacers– know names, check in, provide resources, answer questions.
Be knowledgeable about all relevant topics: running, racing, pacing, training, stretching, nutrition, etc.
Be available and willing to answer trainee questions on running topics, if you don’t know the answer to a question be willing to find out.
Wear Coach cap and shirt
Be accountable and reliable
Be frequently present at group social events and meet ups
Lead Coaches should have coaching experience, marathon running and training experience, and be RRCA Certified or willing to obtain certification by Feb. 1st 2011. Strong leadership skills and people skills are a MUST.
Training branches in San Francisco, Peninsula, and South Bay-coaches needed for all. Programs start January 29th 2011 and run through July 31st 2011. Coaching positions start immediately.
Assistant coaching positions are also available and do not require RRCA certifications. Pacer positions are also available but do not receive stipend.

Peninsula Training – Weeknight Track 6:30pm, Informal Weeknight Runs 6:30pm, Saturday Run 7:30am
South Bay Training – Weeknight Track 6:30pm, Informal Weeknight Runs 6:30pm, Saturday Run 7:30am
Coach Compensation:
$1,000 to $2,000 for 26 week commitment. $800-$1000 for assistant coaches
Coach’s training shirt (longsleeve and shortsleeve) and cap
