Lukas mentioned in his interview he has narrowed his choices down to the top 5. What schools do you think are in the running?

He was at NCAA nationals in Terre Haute and flotrack asked him. He replied with somewhere "out west or down south...well not far south but south of here." Many took that and interpreted it as Stanford/Oregon or OK State.
Will be interesting to see how triathlon training plays into the decision, or if it does at all.
Baylor
Remember he hasn't decided whether or not he's doing Triathlon full time or running full time next year, so if he does Triathlon full time he doesn't have to go to a good running school
I know for a fact that he is looking at the U. of Portland
In the flotrack NCAA highlight real there is a clip of him disguised in a hat say "I think the cowboys got it." So, defiantly not Stanford!
It's at 5:25.
He seems to have no doubts that running will be his career, so you can only look at the biggies:
Stanford
Oregon
Arkansas
Wisco
Colorado
because of the triathlon thing, Stanford would probably be most likely. But Colorado could appeal for the great cycling up there and general sportiness of the place.
South? Arkansas? Some crappy florida school? How do you train seriously in the south?

I think you're leaving out a "biggie" that is South of him. Oklahoma State.
I don't think Illinois would be a stretch. An elite school academically and their xc and t/f is looking better and better. Remember, when he left lincolnway HS he didnt go to York he went to Sandburg. So don't be surprised if he doesn't pick a traditionally strong school based on xc or track and field.
Lukas made it clear in his interviews if indoor goes well and he meets his goals, he will comment to running, if indoors goes sour, he will comment to the Tri. He has stated clearly he will not do both in college.
Another factor To consider with illinois is, he coaches (parents) are a pretty close drive (just under 2hours) to Champaign. Something no other school has going for them. And you can bet that they defiantly will have their hand in it when it comes to coaching. So unless their going to move along with him I can't see how Illinois wouldn't at least be an viable option.
He might go to Oregon, he had a relationship with Hasay
????? relationship with hasay???? lets hear more.

Univ of Portland is very good. Doesn't seem bad for him to go there
I don't know what type of person he is but...
BYU? - good for mormons
Air Force Academy? - colorado springs is good for religious rednecks
Wisconsin? - probably too far north for him?
Too far north? Its only an hour or two north of where he lives- Chicago area.
Some crappy florida school? sorry, but fsu got second at NCAA's this year. that's better than stanford, oregon, arkansas, wiso, colorado...and every other team in the NCAA except for Ok state. give credit to where it's due. they may not have the most storied program, but they held their own this year.
probably referring to academics

Are you serious right now?! How do you train seriously in the south? Some crappy Florida school? The University of florida has landed two FL finalists, both being in the top ten mind you. Matt Mizerick and Jimmy Clack (10th and 7th respectively). Matt is in his first year at UF and Jimmy has already stated he is going there. Florida had two other runners at FL this year, Elliot Clemente finishing 25th and Ryan Pickering at either 8th or 9th. So two floridians this year in the top 10 at foot locker. Meanwhile, AJ Del Valle won...yes that means 1st place...the NXN south regional meet in 15 flat. In the last two years 5 runners have broken 15, and 2 have broken 9 in the 3200. How can you say we dont train seriously and that we have some crappy florida school. Okay maybe UF isnt in the top 5 in the nation, but they have the New-Balance 5000m outdoor champion, and the number 7 runner in the nation.
Btw, I'm a UM fan, your comment is so ridiculous that I had to defend the gators..
sounds like I was more obnoxious than I should have been.
by 'crappy' I did mean academically, not athletically. This is clearly my yankee bias showing. but am I wrong?
As for 'how do you train seriously in the South' - well, good points - it can be done, but given the entire 48 states, would that be the best college choice for a guy who intends to be a professional athlete?
I tried to come up with some statistics to show the non-desirability of Florida for collegiate distance running - best I came up with is this:
Florida is 6.1% of the population but at NCAA XC this year, only 2.8% of the athletes came from Florida.Small sample, I know.
I don't know - do you think there is really any chance LV will go to a Florida school? Or would you even recommend it to the top prep distance runner in the country? really?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
