Seb Coe maybe. He seems like a bright bloke.
1:41 for 800m, IQ =?
I guess I'm just a genius and a f***ing stud athlete - 1:52 and 160.

This site (for what its worth) estimates a 150 IQ as a 1430-1460 on the SAT. That actually fits well with the standards required for various intelligence societies, but doesn't fit with what a lot of people say the IQ is.

I doubt this is very accurate, since you can study for the SAT.[/quote]
Whether its accurate or not (and that is debatable) has little to do with the fact that you can study for the SAT.

IQ tests how smart you are. SAT tests how smart you are plus how well you paid attention in high school. In certain cases, studying or not studying certain material could affect SAT score but presumably not IQ score. So, in certain cases, IQ and SAT might not correlate well, because the SAT tests more than just inborn intelligence, and that something happens to be something that can be studied for.
I'm not saying they aren't correlated over all, just that you're IQ could be higher or lower than that given that chart.

Wow. You people are pea-brained enough to believe you are several standard deviations from the mean. Even exceeding one standard deviation is a noble accomplishment. Your argument that someone has to be there is ridiculous. Apparently, I'm supposed to believe that the whole 2.5% of the population that is 2 standard deviations above the mean is contained ON Letsrun. You imbecile.

What in my understanding of statistics was flawed?
Your application of statistics is flawed in two ways. First, you seem flabbergasted that "the intelligent miler" could possibly be a whole 2 standard deviations above the mean but also acknowledge that ~2.5% of the population lies in that range. What is so surprising about finding someone with 1-out-of-50 intelligence on a message board with 1000s of unique page views per day? To the contrary, it would be extremely unlikely NOT to occur.
Second, you distort "the intelligent miler"'s claim. He merely claimed to be an individual with a 130 IQ (or thereabout). You attempt to refute him by saying "Apparently, I'm supposed to believe that the whole 2.5% of the population that is 2 standard deviations above the mean is contained ON Letsrun." You can certainly have a single individual in that range without containing the entire population.
Sure, some people are exaggerating or pulling things out of their asses, but on a typical day you probably pass a few people with >130 IQs on the sidewalk. I'm assuming a few things about how much you walk and what sort of city you live in, but the point remains. 1-out-of-50 is not that rare.
I agree, but if it is 2.5% of the population that would be 1-out-of-40 (i.e. even more common).
I ran a 2:47 800, but it's all good because my IQ is 289.

Wow! Really? Dang, you're the first person that I've personally known who has a higher IQ than mine (285). I would take my hat off to you but it seems to be stuck on my head at the moment.

Congratulations! Now Parade Magazine can replace "Ask Marylin" with "Ask oh please!"
Unfortunately, though, you are not a very good 800 meter runner.

Correct. I was just rounding down to 2% for a nice number before taking the 1-out-of-... since the actual probability is less than 2.5% anyways (2.28% or so).
My IQ is 153 based on a mensa controlled IQ test under classroom conditions and my 800m time is 1:55.53 but I honestly think a sub 1:53 is on the cards next year. So, close but no cigar.
I have my running record online and mensa certificate available so would expect any of the other people who have actually achieved the goals thread title to also have them. Easy to prove so go ahead.
