Kid with a good build for distance running starts seriously taking up the sport at the beginning of 7th grade. Wants to be an all-american XC and 5k-10k track guy in college. Is this a good, but realistic, growth curve for him in terms of weekly mileage?
7th Grade: 20-30 miles per week
8th Grade: 30-40 miles per week
9th Grade: 40-50 miles per week
10th Grade: 50-60 miles per week
11th Grade: 60-70 miles per week
12th Grade: 70-80 miles per week
Fr - College: 80-90 miles per week
So - College: 90-100 miles per week
Jr - College: 100-110 miles per week
Sr - College: 110-120 miles per week
Essentially I heard 10 miles per year was a good safe number to go with and I know that top college XC and 10k runners are doing 100-120 miles per week.
